 NEW-MAY 8thVirginia State Rowing Championships Schedule

 Parking

Parking is extremely limited. Please read the following, especially if you are new to regattas.

1. For big regattas, if you are only dropping off your rower, plan on arriving on site 30 minutes before your rower needs to report in, because Hampton Road and Van Thompson Road are sometimes backed up with cars waiting to move through the parking money-takers.
2. If you are planning to park, allow time to:
                          -- walk from upper lots to viewing area or stand in line for shuttle van ($2 cost);
            plus        -- walk from Loisvale lot to upper lots, when upper lots full;
              or          -- take shuttle bus service (included in your $10 for parking) from Van Thompson lot
                              to upper lots, when Loisvale is full;
              or          -- turn around and drive on up 123 to commuter parking lot across the Occoquan River,
                              wait there for shuttle bus service, and ride shuttle bus (included in your $10 for parking) all
                              the way back to Sandy Run Park when Van Thompson Lot is full.
3. To summarize, the later you arrive, unless you come so late that people are starting to leave for the day, the more time you need
to allow to deal with parking. Be conservative. Don't miss your rower's event!

General Regatta Info

For many of our parents, the regatta on Saturday will be their first and we thought it might be helpful to offer these Regatta Survival Suggestions from Laurie Price.

1.    Wear walking shoes.  Even if you take the shuttle from the parking lot to the grandstand ($2 each way) there is still a lot of walking to be done.
2.    Bring binoculars and a camera (and a video camera if you like).

3.   The grandstand is not protected from the rain and is minimally protected from the sun.  Bring rain gear and sun screen and sun glasses.

4.    Many folks bring very small folding yard chairs or a cushion to improve the comfort level of the grandstand seating.

5.   Food is available at the boathouse concession and grand stand concession stands.  Bring some cash for lunch and for the shuttle if you prefer not to walk the path along the river from the boathouse to the grandstand.

6.    Woodson has the reputation as having the best, and most fun, cheering section.  Come ready to yell for our kids!
