Saturday, April 1, 2017

St. Andrews School

The entire Woodson Crew Team will be participating in the Noxontown Regatta on April 1st. This is a day trip for the team. The chartered bus will leave W.T. Woodson at 7:30 a.m. and return by 7:00 p.m.

Please review trip details and complete required paperwork by Wednesday, March 29th. Packets and payments can also be turned in at the Away Regatta Parent Meeting on March 29th at 7:00 p.m. at Cav Hall. Volunteers will be available to answer questions, assist with forms and accept payments.

Fees for 2017 Noxontown Regatta are $70.00. All Student travel and food are included in this payment.

Rowers will travel on two commercial tour buses equipped with DVD player and bathroom. Coaches/chaperones will ride in each bus. Note: ONLY movies rated G, PG, and PG-13 are permitted; if there is any doubt, your rower will have to be able to prove the movie rating for it to be viewed on the bus.

Buses depart at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2017. Please arrive at WT Woodson at 7:15 a.m. All athletes who ride the bus to St. Andrew’s are expected to also return on the bus to WTW. Alternative return travel arrangements must be communicated to VP for Activities and Team Liaison, Catherine Foley, or 954-303-5454 prior to the team's departure on April 1. Regatta costs are fixed even if athletes choose alternative transportation.

All parents who are driving, or will be present at the regatta, are requested to complete the enclosed 'Field Trip Driver’s License & Vehicle Insurance Information' (FS-142). Even if you do not plan to transport team-members, filling out this form in advance is appreciated, as it may allow you to help out in case of an unforeseen event.

Lunch, snacks and dinner are provided for the WTW Team and family members. Please note that the food will be under the Woodson canopy on site from about 9am until about 4pm.

It is only through parent volunteer contributions of time, energy, and equipment, that meals are provided. Please volunteer to help our food coordinators with shopping, packing, or loading food in preparation for the trip, or with the fun of cooking (and cleaning) under the canopy. Please also consider sharing your cooler(s) and tarps to support this food effort; all equipment contributions should be dropped off at a location to be determined. Contact Sissy Kutia with questions: or or call / text: (757) 619-5776.

Note: We are unable to provide meals considerate of every possible special dietary requirement, whether religious, vegetarian, or allergy. Student-athletes or family members must either choose among the foods provided for what is acceptable, or bring along food that is suitable for their individual needs.

Lastly we need to bring a lot of water as there is no potable water onsite.

Parking is available at the Noxontown Pond area near team tents.

Be prepared for every possible weather condition - there is very little shelter, and if it rains (and it does almost every year. Dress to stay warm and dry, or if the forecast is hot, bring plenty of water, sunscreen and a hat. Binoculars and camera are very useful. The team does not provide seating at the tent, so bring a lawn chair or a blanket for your sitting comfort.

We need YOU! Parents attending the Regatta are needed to fill our volunteer requirements; particularly with feeding rowers at the WTW tent site. Duties include chaperoning, cooking, clean up, tent take-down and whatever else is needed. Please sign up for these positions at the Away regatta parent meeting or on Sign-up Genius.

FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY: You may call Sissy Kutia @ (757) 619-5776 or email Sissy will be available by phone, text or email.

The anticipated time of return is approximately 7pm. Rowers will be asked to use their cell phones to notify their parents when the buses are an hour from WTW. Parents are asked to be prompt when picking up their rower from the Kiss and Ride at Woodson so that coaches and chaperones are able to go home promptly, too.

A parent must complete the attached 'Student Medication Form' if a crew member will be bringing any medications, prescription or non-prescription, including pain relievers. The form, along with all medications in their original containers, must be placed in a sealable plastic bag, labeled with the crew member's name and checked in Saturday morning, April 1, 2017. If your rower is asthmatic, please pack two inhalers.

All medication bags will be given to the coach/parent acting as the bus chaperone. The chaperone will then re-distribute all medication bags to the students once the bus departs WTW. Students will be responsible for taking their own medication according to the dosage indicated while on the trip. Team-mates will not be allowed to share any drugs, whether prescription or over-the counter.
