1.  BOATHOUSE WORK DAY - 14 FEBRUARY
2.  LAST TAG DAY - TOMORROW, 24 JANUARY
  • It looks like there is a chance of rain so we encourage rowers to dress warmly, and bring an umbrella or a rain jacket.  Note:  If FCPS cancels the SATs, we will cancel Tag Day. Check www.fcps.edu.  We will also notify you via email.
  • Thank so much to all of the rowers and parents that have supported this great fundraising effort for the crew team.

3.  NEW SHELLS ARRIVING - TOMORROW, 24 JANUARY
  • Need help unloading boats and rearranging the boathouse.  
4.  US ROWING WAIVER - Renewal Required by all athletes
  • All WTW Crew Athletes must complete or renew the US Rowing Waiver after 1 Jan of each year:
    • Go to: https://rosters.usrowing.org/waiver
    • Our club access code is DURXS
    • All athletes will be asked four safety questions.
      • Please answer the safety questions to the best of your ability. Your responses will not impact your ability to sign the waiver. These questions are for educational purposes only and give USRowing feedback on how our athletes understand safety within our sport
    • Athletes may be asked to watch a USADA anti-doping video and complete the USRowing anti-doping acknowledgement, if they indicate an interest in participating in a national team selection event.
5.  PRACTICE BUS INFORMATION 
  • BUS UPDATE:  Thank you to all the parents who have responded regarding the bus, and paid their deposits.   Our minimum ridership level has been met and exceeded, so we have moved forward with the bus contract!   The final price will be determined and communicated in the near future, and is expected to be lower than the maximum of $450 previously noted.   The final bus payment will be due no later than February 13, and may be paid at the February 11 parent meeting.  The first day of bus service isMonday, February 23.  More information will be forthcoming.  
  • There are a few seats still available, on a first come, first served basis.  If you are interested, make your $100 (nonrefundable) deposit check payable to WTW Crew Boosters, and mail along with your signed (parent and student) bus registration form (attached) to Kelly Dobrydney, Crew Chaperone Coordinator, 4500 Rachael Manor Drive, Fairfax, VA 22032.  Alternatively, you can drop it at Kelly's home in the George Mason Forest neighborhood off Braddock Road.   Contact Jane Ohashi, Bus Coordinator (contact info below) to let her know it is coming.
6.  FUNDRAISING

  • The crew team is selling discount cards for Flagship Carwash Center (http://www.flagshipcarwash.com/).  
  • The cards cost $20 and entitle the holder to ten, 1/2 price car washes at any Flagship location in Virginia -- Over a $100 value! 
  • The closest location is 7333 Little River Turnpike in Annandale.  
  • Support the team and save yourself the hassle of washing all the salt and grit off your car this winter.

7.  REGISTRATION
  • A few of you have not completed your Concussion Training - Both student athlete and 1 parent need to complete the concussion training and test online.  You need to have your student athlete's school ID number.  Note: You must use Firefox or Safari the program is not compatible with Internet Explorer or Chrome. 
  • If you selected Mail in Installment Payment, your 2nd payment is past due.  Send your check to:

8.  VIRGINIA SCHOLASTIC ROWING ASSOCIATION UPDATE

  • VASRA Coxswain Clinic, South County High School, 21 February
9.  COXSWAIN CLINIC
  • There is a coxswain clinic sponsored by Mary Whipple (Olympic Gold Medalist) on Feb 7 at West Springfield High School.
  • Registration is to be completed through Regatta Central. There is a $95 fee, and if you want to attend the additional session there is another $95 fee.  The additional session is limited to only 20 coxswains.

10.  SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR SENIORS
  • The Northern Virginia Athletic Directors, Administrators, and Coaches Association (NVADACA) announces its annual scholarship program.  Seniors in Virginia Northern Region High Schools who have participated in interscholastic sports as an athlete, team manager, athletic trainer or cheerleader are eligible to apply to receive one of the fifteen (15) scholarships.  (Last year $2,000 was planned and $3,000 was awarded)  Included in the fifteen scholarships are three special scholarships recognizing: a physically challenged student, a student planning a career in elementary education, and a student with two letters in either baseball or softball.  Completed application packets include a listing of athletics and activities, a 500-word essay on one of three topics, a recommendation, and a transcript release form for an official seventh semester transcript.  A statement of financial need is required, but need is viewed very broadly.  Criteria for judging will include academic achievement, extent of involvement, contributions to the team(s), contributions to school, community, church, and work, writing skills, leadership, and financial need.  
  • The application is available in the Career Center and at www.nvadaca.org.  Applications MUST be returned to the Career Center no later than Thursday, 19 February.  Ignore the deadline cited online.  WTW committees must have time to process applications to properly submit applications.
