This past weekend the Woodson crew team packed up its trailer and headed off to Philadelphia for the 87th annual holding of the prestigious Stotesbury Cup Regatta. The Men’s Freshman 8+ finished 20th of 45 with a time of 4:56.22, the Men’s Junior 4+ finished 48th of 61 with a time of 5:30.98, the Women’s Junior 4+ finished 31st of 59 with a time of 6:02.35, and the Men’s Senior 4+ finished 19th of 54 with a time of 5:04.66. Advancing to the Semi Finals were the teams two State Championship crews, the Women’s Junior 8+ finishing 17th of 46 with a time of 5:21.6 and the Men’s Junior 8+ finishing 4th of 48 with a time of 4:33.58.

In the Semi Finals Saturday morning, the Women’s Junior 8+ finished 6th with a 5:30.14 behind Philadelphia locals Oakcrest & Mt. Saint Joes, Mainland & Ridgewood from New Jersey, and Walt Whitman from Bethesda, MD. The Men’s Junior 8+ finished second in their Semi Final behind Gonzaga from Washington, DC with a 4:31.36 advancing to finals! They beat locals Oakton & Thomas Jefferson from Fairfax, St. Augustine from Florida, and Fairfield Prep from Connecticut.
In the Men’s Junior 8+ Stotesbury final, our Woodson men finished 4th behind Montclair from NJ, Mt. Saint Joes from Philadelphia, and Gonzaga from Washington DC with a 4:34.33. In my time with Woodson, this was the most exciting race I have witnessed. They beat Holy Spirit from Philadelphia and local TC Williams from Alexandria. I would like to congratulate all of our athletes for their incredible efforts in Philadelphia this past weekend. Our 2013 season comes to a close this weekend at SRAA Nationals at Cooper River, NJ. Best of luck to our qualifying crews, the Men’s Freshman 8+, Women’s Junior 8+, and Men’s Junior 8+ this weekend!

Pull for Woodson!
