The 2013 W.T. Woodson Crew season came to a thrilling conclusion the past weekend. The team took our three boats that qualified, The Men’s Freshman 8+, Women’s Junior 8+, and Men’s Junior 8+ to Cooper River New Jersey for the Scholastic Rowing Association of America National Championships.
Friday morning our Men’s Freshman 8+ finished 6th in their heat with a 4:55.27. Our Women’s Junior 8+ shortly followed finishing 4th in their heat with a 5:33.72…just 0.8 seconds from advancing to the semifinals. The Men’s Junior 8+ finished 2nd with a 4:40.7 advancing to Saturday’s Semifinals.

In the Semifinals the Men’s Junior 8+ finished 1st advancing to the final at 2:05pm with a time of 4:32.40. In the final, coxswain Ian Bushy, Grayson Bishop, Bret Wagner, Andrew Greer, David Torgersen, Brandan Sagawinia, Lucas Battisti, Ryan Applin, Thomas Holtslander, and their coach Todd Jesdale won the National Championship beating Montclair, TC Williams, Holy Spirit, Gonzaga, and St. Joes Prep with a time of 4:30.3. This is the first SRAA Championship won since 2004 and first ever by an eight man shell.

I would like to congratulate all of our athletes who raced this weekend and thank all the coaches, family members, and Woodson Crew supporters who were there to witness a fantastic weekend of racing and support the team. The final two events of the season are the Spring Athetics Award Night on 6/5/13 and the end-of-year picnic on 6/8/13.
I would personally like to thank the school, activities office, crew board, parents & family members, assistant coaches, and of course our phenomenal athletes for such a great 2013 season. All of the team’s trophies and awards will be presented to Principal Yost at the Spring Athletics Awards Night.

Here’s to 2014,
