2. URGENT REMINDER: Nationals Payments are Due Now!  If your student-athlete qualified for Nationals or is an alternate, payments are due immediately. The forms submitted for the Stotesbury Regatta will satisfy all the requirements for Nationals. 3. REMINDER: 2019-2020 WTW Crew Booster Executive Board Nominations Requested. Unbelievably, the end of the 2018-2019 season is nearly upon us and we need to begin planning for the 2019-2020 WTW Crew season!  At the end of the year celebration on May 31st, the WTW Crew Boosters (all parents of crew athletes) will vote to elect next year's executive officers (President, Vice President for Team Liaison and Activities, Vice President for Communications, Treasurer, and Secretary) and key chair positions. The 2019-2020 board positions that we do not have nominees for are: President, Membership Chair for Men, and Volunteer Coordinator.

For board position descriptions, please refer to the By-Laws. If you are interested in serving in any of these positions or if you'd like to nominate someone that you think would be great and willing, please contact the nominating committee at wtwcrewcommunications@gmail.com. If a committee members reaches out to you to discuss the possibility, please keep an open mind. It takes a whole village to make this awesome club run!  Huge thanks to all of the parent volunteers throughout the year - including board members and every other volunteer job. Your kids appreciate it - whether they realize it or not!

5. NEW: Stotesbury Luggage/Medicine Turn-In Wednesday, May 15th from 7-8pm WTW Door #3, near Wrestling Room!

For more details on Stotesbury, please see our Stotesbury information page.

REMINDER: Practice will end early on Wednesday. All bags except carry-ons must be turned in at this time; this baggage will be inaccessible during bus travel.  All bags will be searched, taped/sealed and checked-in. Students (or their parent) must present their own bags for this search, which is supervised by the coaching staff. Over the Counter Medications: Please keep in the original containers. However, please do not send FULL NEW bottles of medication. Please only send a sufficient, reasonable amount of medication for the 3 day event.

The medication form is a crew team form and not required by FCPS. All medications in their original containers, must be placed in a sealable plastic bag, labeled with the crew member's name. This will be reviewed and checked-in Wednesday evening during the baggage search (Please just send enough for your student for just the trip). Students will receive their checked medications as they board the bus the following day. Students will be responsible for taking their own medication according to the dosage indicated while on the trip. Team-mates will not be allowed to share any drugs, whether prescription or over-the counter.

8. REMINDER: Applications for WTW Crew’s 3-5 person Leadership Council are due Tuesday, May 28th.  This is an update to how we will be conducting Captain search moving forward. This is based upon guidance given to us by the DSA's office. Spring sports teams are no longer to select team Captains out of season. Instead, we will allow athletes to submit their names to be part of a "Leadership Council". The Leadership Council will be a group of men and women that will perform the duties that have been traditionally done by Captains in off-season; primarily recruiting in the fall, leadership at green days, and mentorship at winter conditioning. Team Captains (two men and two women) will be selected from the Leadership Council at the time the team starts on-the-water practices in Spring 2020. Coaches are communicating this change to the students.

Expectations of the Leadership Council are:

  • Recruit new team members

  • Motivate teammates

  • Foster an atmosphere of friendliness and cooperation among fellow members

  • Act as the first point of communication/resolution for issues within the team

  • Set the example for fellow rowers to follow/emulate as an athlete, leader, and citizen

  • Assist the coaches with getting crews on and off the water during the off-season/Green Days and during Winter Conditioning

  • Liaison with coaches and bring any important issues to the attention of the coaches

  • Be well organized and willing to take the time to effectively carry out the role

  • Not let personal differences affect their relationship with coaches or other rowers

  • Organize special events as appropriate

  • Help maintain the cleanliness and organization of the boathouse and equipment and teach fellow members the care of equipment and rules of the boathouse

  • Supervise other rowers during boat loading and unloading during Green Days

Athletes interested in being considered as part of the WTW Crew Leadership Council should write a short letter of application (200-400 words in length) explaining why they would make a good council member. Letters should be received by Coach Tylander or Coach Fitz by Tuesday May 28th unless told otherwise by the coaches.  Please contact your coach if you have any questions.
