Update regarding team uniforms

posted Mar 26, 2019, 5:54 AM by WTW Crew Webmaster
Unfortunately, the supplier of our uniforms, JL Racing, has yet to provide us with a firm date of when we may expect our uniform shipment. JL Racing states that they experienced significant internal supply and logistics problems as a result of relocating their production facility. Further exasperating the problem is their slow response to each of my many inquiries. I can assure you that I will continue to hound them until we have full resolution and all items are received...even if it means a road trip to Philadelphia.

Regardless, regattas are happening, and we have uniform rules that must be abided by in order for our crews to be eligible to race on the Occoquan. Uniform rules are by boat, not by team. Therefore, we will provide a temporary solution by purchasing a matching tank top for all novices. We request that this tank top be worn with black spandex racing shorts. (most athletes already have these). Any novices that are rowing in upper boats will be accommodated from our team overstock of uniforms - similar to what we would have done for Polar Bear regatta.

St. Andrews (next weekend) does not have enforced uniform rules. The coaches will communicate their expectations to each boat as to what they should wear on the water. We request that your athlete wear either their 2018 / 2019 team shirt or the navy blue winter conditioning shirt on the trip.

Team photos - We have rescheduled team photos by Lifetouch to April 1st. We can't reschedule this again as we will miss the deadline for inclusion in the yearbook. If we do not get the uniforms by then, all returning rowers should wear their unisuits and all novices should wear their 2018/ 2019 team t-shirts for the photo.

Our team has used JL Racing for uniforms since unisuits became standard issue, in the early 1990s. They are a primary supplier of rowing uniforms internationally and, therefore, we are very surprised by the current situation. I can assure you that we are NOT the only VASRA team that is being affected by this issue. I have reached out to all other VASRA team booster board presidents and many of them share our concerns and are in the same situation that we are. If you feel compelled to lend your voice and share your frustration with JL Racing, you may send an email to them at customerservice@jlracing.com.

Our uniform chair, Babette Korn, and I will keep you updated as we know more. Your patience is greatly appreciated.
