Good morning,

In this email (details below):

  1. Boat Line-ups

  2. VSRC Day 1

  3. Pre-Regatta Dinner Assignments

  4. Volunteers Needed

  5. No Bus Tomorrow, Friday

  6. Stotesbury Registration

1. NEW: Boat Line-ups: As we come upon our most competitive regattas (VSRC, Stotesbury Cup Regatta, and SRAA Nationals) it is not uncommon for our coaches to make changes, either subtle or significant, in seat placement and boat line-up. Although this may seem disruptive from the outside, it is in keeping with our goals as stated in the team handbook.

"The WTW Crew coaching staff maintains a competitive environment, one where the rowers want to win races, but realize this goal intrinsically. Specific program goals include:

● To field as many competitive boats in as many categories as feasible

● To have the maximum number of boats reach finals and medal in the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championships (VSRC)

● To enter competitive lineups at the annual Stotesbury Cup Regatta in Philadelphia, PA.

● To qualify the maximum number of boats to race in the Scholastic Rowing Association of America (SRAA) National Championships"

These changes are not arbitrary and are well thought-out by our experienced coaching staff. We look forward to seeing W.T Woodson Crew athletes on the medals dock in the coming weeks.

2. REMINDER: The VSRC Day 1 is this Saturday! Student-athletes will be told which boat they will be on and what time to arrive. As a general rule and unless told otherwise by a coach, rowers must be at the boathouse no later than two hours before their scheduled race, and coxswains must be there for the coxswains’ meeting.

Our boats rowing on Saturday are the W-N-4, W-N-8, M-N-8, M-N-4, M-2-4, M-FR-8, M-JR-8, and possibly a M-N-8.

The heat sheets are not available yet, so we recommend following @VASRAResults on Twitter and watching our Home Page for more information as well.

Let’s get ready to pull for Woodson!

REMINDER: If you want to save some money (it costs $20 to park at Sandy Run during a regatta), you have the opportunity to use the Halley Elementary School (ES) at 8850 Cross Chase Cir, Fairfax Station, VA 22039 (formerly operated out of Silverbrook Elementary School) shuttle which is free to student-athletes and family members from our school and a few others who contribute to it.

3. REMINDER: Pre-Regatta Dinner Food Assignments for all families. Our next pre-regatta dinner is this Friday from 7-9pm hosted by the Aanestad family. Thank you for hosting and to the parents who have signed up to help. Here are the dinner and RAFT food assignments for all families.  Note these are not in alphabetical order, but ordered by dish type. If an athlete’s last name falls between the names listed then that is their food assignment.

Please bring the assigned food items to the pre-regatta dinner promptly at 7pm, even if your student-athlete is unable to attend the dinner.

4. UPDATE: Volunteer Opportunities Available. Thank you again to the student-athletes and parents who have signed up to help in various roles so far!  We do still have some volunteer opportunities available for the last two regattas on the Occoquan. Here are the sign-up genius links for:

~ Several Saturday RAFT helpers all shifts for May 4th and May 11th

~ 2 Saturday VASRA Launch Boat drivers for May 4th and May 11th

~ 1 Friday AM VASRA shopper for May 10th

IMPORTANT REMINDER: If you are not able to fulfill your obligation, please don’t just remove your name from the sign-up genius, but please also notify our volunteer coordinator at wtwcrewvolunteer@gmail.com so we can ensure we fill the vacant slot and avoid being fined if it is a VASRA slot.

5. REMINDER: No Bus Friday. You can use the #carpool channel in Slack to coordinate rides with other parents.

6. REMINDER: Stotesbury Registration Information. Student-athletes should have been notified if they are going to Stotesbury as primaries or alternates. Registration is being extended until Monday, May 6th to allow everyone to focus on States on Saturday, but if you have your registration paperwork and payment ready, Lesley Kowalski will still be at the dinner Friday night to collect registration materials.
