1. NEW: Thank you. Thank you to all the families who attended the Parent Season Kick-off Meeting. It was great to see so many of you there. The slides presented are now posted on the frontpage of our website. Thank you to all the new and returning rowers/coxswains who participated in Green Days. More pictures are posted on our SmugMug page. Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to man the concessions stand at the home WTW Football game. We made a great sales team! Thank you also to those who put up Craft Show yard signs. They look great around the neighborhoods. 2. NEW: Registration is Open! Steps 1-5 must be completed no later than November 16th to participate in Winter Conditioning. All registration must be complete no later than February 16th to participate in on-the-water activities. As you may recall from the Parent Season Kick-off presentation, there are nine (9) steps to registration which can be found on our website and are summarized below:

Please help us spread the word about the Craft Show by sharing the event through Facebook, listserves, Twitter, and any other social media outlets. Here is the event link on Facebook. 4. REMINDER: Erg Returns and Sales on October 20th. Those that rented ergs for the summer must return them between 9am-noon on October 20th (Saturday). We will also have four (4) available for sale at $300 each. If you are interested in purchasing an erg, please email wtwcrewlogistics@gmail.com prior to the 20th. 5. NEW: VASRA Workday Volunteers Needed. If you sign up for this, it will count toward one of your two required VASRA volunteer requirements. VASRA needs assistance demolishing old docks/ramps and getting equipment prepared for the winter. This work will be physically challenging and you will get wet and dirty. Please wear clothing that can possible get stained, ripped or torn. Waterproof work gloves would be valuable (VASRA does have some work gloves, but may not have enough for everyone). Waders would be valuable if you have them (some people may have to be in the water during the demolition of the docks). Any demolition tools that you can bring would be helpful. Work will be accomplished during three (3) hour work shifts from 9am-12pm or 1-4pm on the next two Saturdays, October 20th and 27th. SAVE THE DATE: Restaurant Fundraiser all day on Tuesday, October 23rd (Tuesday) at Mamma Lucia located at 9650 Main St., Suite 40, Fairfax, VA 22031. Stop by anytime on the 23rd and they will donate 10% of their sales to the team. Here is the flyer with the details. 7. REMINDER: Other Key Dates: NOTE: The full season calendar (as known now) is posted on the wtwcrew.org site.
8. REMINDER: Tag Days. WTW Crew’s largest annual fundraiser is Tag Days. Tag Days are when pairs of rowers/coxswains go door-to-door to spread the word about WTW Crew and accept donations from generous homeowners. On several designated dates, groups of four student-athletes are driven to their pre-mapped route by parent volunteers. This is also the only fundraiser that all athletes and parents are required to support. (athletes - 4 shifts for returning, 3 shifts for novice; parents - 1 driving shift per athlete on the team) Sign-up genius now available We encourage you to plan ahead to fit Tag Days into your schedule. Dates: Saturdays November 17, December 1, December 8, 2018 and January 12, January 26, and February 2, 2019. (Please note that some dates are AM shift only!) 9. NEW: Accomplishments. Congratulations to Joy Kim who was recognized by USRowing for her academic and rowing achievements. She is one of only 30 senior student-athletes nationwide to be named to the 2018-2019 USRowing Scholastic Honor Roll. |
