1. NEW: Uniform Store Is Open: The WTW Crew Team uniform store is now open at https://wtwcrew.itemorder.com/sale. Orders must be placed by January 20, 2020.

Mandatory items for purchase are the Unisuit and Cold Weather Training Top. Unis and tops are gender-specific, so make sure you order the correct gender uni and top for your rower. Optional items are also available such as a Visor, a Stevenson weathershirt, and wind pants. The weathershirt is monogrammable for an extra charge of $6.

Members of the men’s team who have unisuits and Cold Weather Training Tops from previous years that fit are not required to buy new ones. However, all women rowers will need to buy a new Unisuit and a Cold Weather Training Top because the style of both has changed this year.

Contact Uniform/Spirit wear chair Monica Perry at wtwcrewsportswear@gmail.com if you’re not sure what size to order for your athlete and would like to set up a time to try on some of the sample uniforms.

Uniforms will be delivered to the Uniform/Spirit Wear Chair and will be distributed upon arrival.

Again, the deadline to order is January 20, 2020! So get your order in today!

2. REMINDER: Practice Bus and Carpools: For those who signed up for the after-school bus to crew practice at Sandy Run, please be sure to send the completed bus transportation agreement as soon as possible. You are only guaranteed a seat on the bus if you’ve completed the agreement in addition to your already submitted payment. Please be sure to have your form in by January 21st.

If you are on the practice bus, but circumstances change and you want to be removed from the bus, don’t fret! There is a waitlist so it is likely your spot will be filled, but needs to be filled in order of waitlist.  Please email wtwcrewactivities@gmail.com with any questions and to get on the waitlist for the bus.

Carpool anyone? Families might want to consider carpooling, whether they hope to get off the practice bus waitlist or not. Be sure to head over to the carpool channel in the parent Slack to arrange rides for practices. (Not on Slack? Email to request an invitation now.)

3. REMINDER: Tag Days: The next Tag Day is Saturday, January 25. All rowers and coxswains — including novices — are required to participate in some part of Tag Days. Returning rowers need to attend four Tag Day shifts and novice rowers must attend three shifts. Please sign up now to fulfill your Tag Day requirement. After January 25, the remaining Tag Days are February 1 and 8.

Please contact WTW Crew volunteer chair Susan Burger if you have questions about Tag Days at wtwcrewvolunteer@gmail.com

4. REMINDER: 35th Annual Erg Sprints at T.C. Williams. Registration is open for one of the largest indoor rowing competitions for 18 and under rowers in the country, Saturday, February 1, 2020 at T.C. Williams High School. Athletes do not have to qualify to enter and all ages and levels of experience are welcome. As Coach Tylander reminded families, “if your child has any interest in rowing in college this is the best way to get the attention of college coaches. Doing a 2000m erg test is almost always unpleasant, but it stinks a little bit less if you do it with several hundred people cheering for you. If you are unsure what event to enter have your athlete contact their coach.”

Get more information and register at www.ErgSprints.com

5. NEW: Boathouse Workday February 15: Please sign up now to volunteer for a boathouse workday to prepare for the on-the-water season to begin. We’ll need volunteers to put launches in the water, get shells rigged and cleaned, organize the cox shed and more. We’ll also need a parent with a pickup truck to help in getting fuel for the launches. We need athletes and parents to volunteer and make this workday a success. Sign up now.

And if it’s your first time visiting Sandy Run, stick around for a tour of the site to be prepared to cheer on the team when regatta season begins in March.

6. SAVE THE DATE: Parent on-the-water orientation: Join us February 6 from 7-9 PM in WT Woodson Cafeteria B. Winter conditioning is nearly over. Join us to learn what to expect from crew once the competitive regatta season starts. We will share important information for novice and returning parents alike. Board representatives, coaches, and team captains will be on hand to answer questions. Membership will have blank Parent/Student Driver forms and help parents sign US Rowing Waivers that night.

7. NEW: VASRA Workday Orientation February 15: VASRA, our parent organization, prepares the course at Sandy Run, operates concessions and manages all the people and resources to make our regattas possible. Parents have a requirement to volunteer for VASRA duties to ensure that every season is a success. The first VASRA workday of the season will be February 15, and there is an afternoon session beginning at 1 PM. This is a great way to learn what is required of the ‘river rats’ volunteer corps which prepares and maintains the buoys, starting dock and finish line for our regattas. Visit VASRA.org to learn more.

8. KEEP IN TOUCH: There are lots of ways to keep up with Woodson Crew. If you aren’t already, please follow us on Twitter @WoodsonCrew for all the latest news and updates. You can also follow us on Instagram @wtwoodsoncrew. We also communicate with families through the messaging app Slack. If you aren’t on, contact the WTW Crew Communications VP and request an invite. And here’s a guide to getting on Slack once you do.
