1. NEW: Spring Break Bus: Thanks to everyone who signaled their interest in a bus for students during spring break. The fee for the bus is $100 per rider and we will only be offering the bus if we have a minimum of 42 participants. This is the only way to ensure all our costs are covered. If we don’t register enough students, we’ll refund any fees paid.

The bus will depart Woodson each day of Spring Break at 8:30 AM and return students there at 3:30 PM. Practice is in two shifts, 9-11 AM and 1-3 PM, with a lunch break in between. Head over here to register for the Spring Break bus and pay through PayPal.

2. REMINDER: Uniforms are IN: If you didn’t get your uniform over the weekend, you can pick them up at the home of Monica Perry today between 11 AM and 5 PM. Any remaining uniforms will be brought to practice Tuesday. The address is 8703 Braeburn Dr, Annandale.

3. NEW: Practice Schedule Changes and Picture Day: Because Tuesday, March 3, is a teacher in-service day, there is no practice bus from Woodson to Sandy Run. We’ve moved practice a little earlier this day to save a little daylight (and warmth). Athletes should be at Sandy Run at 3:30 PM. Wednesday, March 4 after school, we’ll take a quick team picture in the stadium before boarding the bus. Athletes will need to wear their uniforms for the picture. Students should check the student slack for where to report.

4. NEW: Pre-Regatta Dinner Hosts and Chaperones: Thank you to everyone who agreed to host a pre-regatta dinner. We still have one slot available for hosting a dinner in April. And of course, these parent volunteers will need a few people to support each dinner keeping food stations filled and trash emptied. Chaperones receive a volunteer credit and there are plenty of slots available. Please sign up here to help out.

5. REMINDER: Spirit Wear Store is OPEN: Head over to the WT Woodson Crew Spirit Wear store and check out a great selection of hats, shirts, vests and totes to wear while you cheer on your athlete. The store stays open until midnight March 8, and a portion of sales benefits the team. Visit today!

6. REMINDER: Restaurant Night at Chipotle March 10: Help the team raise money and get full by joining us Tuesday, March 10 from 4-8 PM at Chipotle on Pickett Road, right by the school. Bring this flyer when you stop by Chipotle for dinner!

7. REMINDER: Parent Away-Regatta Info Session: Now that our athletes are on the water, it’s time to start thinking about our away regatta schedule. We’ll hold an information session on the three opportunities our students will have to travel to regattas and answer all your questions Wednesday, March 11 from 7-9 PM in Woodson Cafeteria B. Our ‘travel’ regattas include one at St. Andrews School in Middletown, DE (more on this one below), the Stotesbury Cup in Philadelphia, PA and the SRAA Nationals (pending qualification) in Camden, NJ. As information about these events changes year over year, we would appreciate it if both new and returning rower families could attend this session.

8. NEW: St. Andrews Regatta: St. Andrews is an invitation-only regatta that Woodson Crew has participated in for the past several years. Because the Polar Bear regatta is for experienced rowers only, this regatta will be the first competition for all Woodson rowers — and no venue has a better view of the races. If you are able to make a day of it, we encourage you to attend. While we previously transported the athletes by bus, we often ran into issues because the venue can’t accommodate large charter buses.

This year, we are asking parents to get athletes to and from the event. It is about two hours away. Ideally, athletes would share rides with their boatmates (though right now, boat lineups aren’t locked). So at this stage we are interested in getting a handle on how many parents are planning to attend and asking if they will participate in a ridesharing plan to make sure all of our students have safe transport to and from St. Andrews. Please respond to this brief survey this week and let us know. Parents participating in rideshare for St. Andrews will receive a volunteer credit.

Finally, later this week and at the away regatta information session, we will be sharing some important forms to complete so your student can participate at St. Andrews.

9. REMINDER: Nutrition Info: Have you noticed your athlete’s appetite increasing yet? The difference between winter conditioning and working out on the water (in the cold) means more calories are burned and need to be replaced. Here’s the best way to feed your hungry athlete.

10. KEEP IN TOUCH: There are lots of ways to keep up with Woodson Crew. If you aren’t already, please follow us on Twitter @WoodsonCrew for all the latest news and updates. You can also follow us on Instagram @wtwoodsoncrew. We also communicate with families through the messaging app Slack. If you aren’t on, contact the WTW Crew Communications VP and request an invite. And here’s a guide to getting on Slack once you do.
