Woodson Crew Families,

As always, we begin with the hope that each family is keeping safe as the region makes its way toward reopening and remind everyone to be cautious and continue washing hands and wearing masks as much as possible. We are all excited about the approaching summer and the prospect of some normalcy coming into view.

In this email, we cover:

  • The slate for the 2021 Woodson Crew Board of Directors

  • Senior night

  • Crew summer plans

  • Reminder on physicals

  • Spirit wear order status

  • Erg rental

  • Membership meeting

  • Refund Info

    VASRA Representative: Joe Hester*

If you’re interested in joining the board and helping to make this sport possible for our kids, please reach out Julie Middleton, Woodson Crew Booster President at wtw.crew.president@gmail.com. Serving on the board fulfills your team volunteer obligation. The VP-team liaison and activities helps organize many of our events, coordinates travel to practices and to our away regattas and is a member of the booster club executive committee. If you want to learn more, please reach out today.

In lieu of a normal membership vote on the board at our end-of-season banquet, we’ll be distributing online ballots next week. We will then conduct a virtual Membership Meeting June 3, 2020 to announce the election results and to review any final year-end parent business. Please mark your calendar and we will distribute a link to the meeting as the day gets closer.

  2. NEW: Celebrating Seniors — If you had a chance to check out the virtual senior night put on by the W.T. Woodson Athletic Boosters in coordination with the teams and coaching staff last week, you know that it was a very special evening. In addition to the official event that night, coaches and team leadership put together a  social-distancing-approved car caravan of teammates to give our seniors a sense of our appreciation for their leadership over the years. Check out pictures from the parade on our photos page and see more pics and video in this Twitter thread.

  3. REMINDER: Summer Plans — As you know, we’re not permitted to conduct any athletic activity on or off school property until at least the end of the school year. The boathouse and other facilities at Sandy Run also remain closed presently. We’re awaiting a plan from parks authorities which operate the facility to learn how and when we can get our athletes back onto the water. Our hope is that students are able to enroll in summer rowing programs and get back on the water. And we are tentatively planning to hold a full set of summer Green Days where our rowers can finally get together and reconnect — and another round once school begins.

If you are interested in learning more or getting some recommendations for summer rowing opportunities, have your student athlete reach out to his/her coach on the team Slack.

  4. REMINDER: Physicals — Since the Woodson High School Athletic Department isn’t sponsoring physicals for athletes at the school this year, we’re encouraging families to book appointments as soon as it’s safe with your family doctor to have a sports physical completed. Physicians must use the VHSL Physical Examination Form — available here. Once school reopens, we’ll determine how to get the completed forms to the Woodson Athletic Trainer’s office. As in previous years, the physical must be completed after May 1 and is good for the full following school year.

  5. REMINDER: Summer Erg Rental — At the beginning of the coronavirus lockdown, coaches distributed many of the team’s ergs. Hopefully, these have been put to use as coaches have distributed workouts over the past few months.

At this point, we’d like to shift into our normal summer mode of officially renting out ergs for at-home conditioning. We’ll reach out to everyone who currently has an erg to see who’s interested in renting one over the summer. After that, we’ll open up erg rental to the full team and work out a contactless way to exchange the equipment.

  6. REMINDER: Spirit Wear Purchases — If you ordered Woodson Crew spirit wear earlier in the season, the vendor has confirmed that our gear is in the post-pandemic queue and will be completed and shipped later in the spring.

  7. REMINDER: Refund Info — If you received an email about how to handle your 2020 season refund, please click the link and complete the information so refunds can be distributed. If you did not receive a message, please contact us and we’ll re-send the link so you can select the right option for you. The messages were sent to the parent email address associated with each athlete’s registration.

Thank you.
