Good morning, In this email (details below):
1. NEW: Thank you. Thank you to all the families who attended the Parent Season Kick-off Meeting. It was great to see so many of you there. Download the presentation from the W.T. Woodson Crew website to catch up and let us know if you have any questions. Thank you to all the new and returning rowers and coxswains who participated in Green Days. 2. REMINDER: Registration is Open! Steps 1-5 must be completed no later than November 20th to participate in Winter Conditioning. Registration must be completed no later than February 20th to participate in on-the-water activities. As you may recall from the Parent Season Kick-off presentation, there are nine total steps to registration which can be found on our website and are summarized below:
If you have questions about this process, please contact the W.T. Woodson Crew Membership team at wtwcrewmembership@gmail.com.
3. REMINDER: WTW Crew Craft Show Volunteers Still Needed! We still need volunteers to help promote the Craft Show, and to make the bake sale during the show a success. The Craft Show is one of our most important fundraising opportunities and a great chance for parents and athletes to get volunteer credit. You can post signs around Woodson the week before the big day, help us set up the night before or pitch in to help vendors get ready on the day of the show. You can also sign up to bake cookies (or something more creative) to support the Bake Sale during the show. You can learn more about the craft show here and sign up now to volunteer. 4. REMINDER: WT Woodson Football Concessions Sign-up: W.T. Woodson Crew has the opportunity to run the concession stand at the home football game Friday, October 25th. This is a great opportunity to watch the game while earning money for the crew team. Please sign-up here. 5. REMINDER: Erg Rental Return: If you rented an erg at the end of last season to keep in shape over the summer, it’s time to bring them back so we can kick off winter conditioning next month. Please plan to return rented ergs between 9 and 11 on the Craft Show Day, November 2, then head over to the Craft Show and check it out. We need a few rowers to help us at this time getting the ergs set for winter conditioning. Sign up here to help out our logistics and equipment team. 6. SAVE THE DATE: Fall Boathouse Workday: Once Green Days conclude this week, we’ll need to clean and lock down the boathouse and launches for the winter. We need rowers and some parents to volunteer to make sure we’re prepared for a great start when we’re back on the water in February. The fall boathouse workday will be from 9 to noon on November 16th. Sign up here to volunteer. 7. NEW: Tag Days: This door-to-door fundraising outreach spreads the word about Woodson Crew, helps the athletes bond and provides valuable funds to support our team. All athletes are required to participate in some part of Tag Days. We will soon be opening sign-ups to participate and to seek parent hosts for each Tag Day. Parent hosts also receive volunteer credit so this is a great way to fulfill those hours. If you are interested in hosting a Tag Day at your home, please contact Susan Burger at wtwcrewvolunteer@gmail.com Please save these dates to participate in Tag Days, Saturdays throughout the winter: November 16 and 23, December 7, January 11 and 25, and February 1 and 8. 8. NEW: Woodson Crew Fundraising at A.C. Moore AND Flippin’ Pizza: Help the Crew Team by shopping at A.C. Moore or eating pizza — or both! November 8, bring this flyer with you to A.C. Moore all day and Woodson Crew receives a donation from your purchase. And the next day, November 9, head over to Flippin’ Pizza with this flyer (and mention it on the phone if ordering ahead) and the team benefits as well. 9. SAVE THE DATE: Winter Conditioning: Now that registration is open, athletes can focus on winter conditioning between now and when we can get back on the water in February. Athletes will workout at the school through the fall and winter beginning November 21st for returning rowers, and December 2nd for new rowers. 10. NEW: Uniform Update: Last season, W.T. Woodson Crew ordered their uniforms and tech shirts from JL Racing. However, JL made some business changes which resulted in production issues. Our team and many others all over the area did not get their uniforms or tech shirts in time for the racing season. When it became apparent that the uniforms would not arrive in time for any regattas, the WTW Crew Board President attempted to negotiate with JL to get refunds or to cancel the order, but JL would only agree to a 50% refund of the purchase price.
For that reason, we decided to use a different vendor for uniforms this year. The new company is called Boathouse, and they’re based in Philadelphia. The new vendor cannot create an exact match of previous uniforms. Novices on the men’s team this year will order the new unis, and we will gradually phase out the old ones as rowers graduate. The coaching staff believes that the men's unis will be a close enough match that they can be used in the same boat as men wearing older unis. So returning rowers who need new unis can purchase them from WTW Crew's online store in the spring.
The women’s team uniform is overdue for a redesign. The uniforms from the new vendor are an overall better fit for the women’s team. All women rowers, novices and returning rowers, will need to purchase the new uniform from the WTW online store in the spring. Women who purchased new unis last year can still use those for practice wear. Parents will be notified when the online store will open for spring 2020 uniform purchase.
Any uniforms or tech shirts that were ordered in spring 2019 are available for pick up on Saturday, October 26 from noon - 2:00 pm at 8703 Braeburn Dr., Annandale, VA 22003. If you have questions or need to schedule a different time for picking up last year’s uniform, please contact Monica Perry at wtwcrewsportswear@gmail.com. 11. REMINDER: Other Key Dates:
