Thank you to all of those that braved the cold weather at Saturday’s Tag Day. We also want to give special thanks to parents that have recently raised a hand to take on open volunteer roles. We are pleased to announce Laly Kassa and Anne Miller as our practice bus coordinators and Kim and Brian Myers as our new away regatta food coordinators. These are very important roles to the team and we thank them for stepping up!

1. URGENT REMINDER: Don’t Miss the Bus! This is the last week to sign-up. Practice Bus registration and payment is due no later than this coming Saturday, January 19, 2019.

To register and for more information including bus schedules, visit Practice Bus Information on our website. Please make your check for $500 payable to WTW Crew Boosters and mail it (or drop off) to the WTW Crew Booster Vice President by the January 19th deadline. Payment by PayPal is also an option for the 2018-2019 season. Please go to the following link (Practice Bus Information) and select “Add to Cart” at the top of the page and follow the PayPal instructions if this is your preferred payment method.

**If your family financial situation is being affected by the government shut down, please return the bus agreement form declaring your intent to utilize the bus and request an extended payment deadline when sending the form to the Vice President of Activities.**

For those paying by PayPal, the Bus Transportation Agreement can be scanned and sent via email to wtwcrewactivities@gmail.com. Please use subject line BUS PAYMENT COMPLETE for (Athlete first and last name). If you have further questions regarding Practice Bus registration, please email wtwcrewactivities@gmail.com.

Every rider’s parents/guardians must sign-up to chaperone ONE day per each athlete. Sign Up for ONE slot per athlete BEFORE February 19; and please fill the days prior to Spring Break before signing up for any of the slots after Spring Break. After initial sign ups we will reach out to parents to fill-in as needed. Sign-up here for Practice Bus Chaperone volunteer slots. 2. NEW: Uniform Store Opens Soon! The WT Woodson Rowing Team store will open soon and we will send a separate email with details once the link is active. All student-athletes are required to have a uni and long-sleeved coolmax shirt. If you are a returning student-athlete and your uni and shirt are in good shape and still fit, you do not need to order. New student-athletes will need to order.

3. NEW: Slack. Our Coaches are already using Slack, a communications tool combining the best elements of text messaging and email, to communicate with the student-athletes. We will now be using it for the broader W.T. Woodson family to send urgent messages such as practice or activity cancellations. Later today (Monday) each parent email in our system will receive an invitation to join the W.T. Woodson Crew on Slack. Here is a link to an easy to use guide.

4. NEW: Open Volunteer Role - Membership Co-Chair: Women's Team. The role of Membership Chair for the women's team is open and we are looking for a parent volunteer to fill this role for the remainder of the year (and hopefully next). Membership Chairperson is responsible for actively planning, promoting, and engaging in the recruitment of new athletes. The Chairperson of the Membership Committee sits as a member of the Board of Directors and assists female athletes and their parents with all registration requirements, maintains the team roster, and manages our online registration system, Ronin. Serving in this capacity fulfills 2 VASRA volunteer commitments, and 3 team volunteer commitments. This is an excellent way to get to know the athletes, their parents, and our coaching staff. It is an ideal time to take on this role as you have a Membership Co-Chair on the men's team to help you learn the ropes. 5. REMINDER: U.S. Naval Academy Field Trip to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland on Saturday, February 9th. Registration for this event must be done on Sign-up Genius by Thursday, January 31, 2019.

The cost is $30 per rower, cash or checks made out to WT Woodson Crew Boosters can be brought to practice or payment is also available via PAYPAL here. Payments must be made no later than Monday, February 4th.

Uniform will be uni suits with team gear. If you are a new rower, unis and available team gear will be provided. If unis do not arrive, alternate uniform will be proscribed.

6. REMINDER: Two Tag Days Left. Our last two Tag Days are January 26th (morning and afternoon shift) and February 2nd. We still have student-athlete slots available for anyone who hasn’t signed up yet. Once in Sign-up Genius, scroll down to the appropriate date(s) and shift(s). Sign-up here.

7. REMINDER: Erg Sprints. Registration closes on January 20th. They welcome athletes of all ages and levels who want to compete. http://ergsprints.com. This is an excellent event if you intend to row in college. College coaches will be on-site! Athletes should talk to their coaches about what events to enter and then register. Coaches have shared a survey on Slack for athletes competing at the Erg Sprints. Fill that out so we know when you’re competing and can cheer you on.

8. NEW: WTW Crew Yard Sale. We’ve got a shiny new boat to pay for so we are bringing back the Rummage Sale on April 28th (May 5th is our rain date). So on the next rainy afternoon or snow day (like today), please pull together a box or bag of athletic gear/clothing/books/games/tools/kitchenware that still has some life left in it and set it aside for the crew team. Shifts for volunteer credit will be available. Stay tuned for more details!

  • January 18 - 3 hour early release from school, but winter conditioning will be at the regular time 
  • January 19 - Registration deadline for practice bus. Deadline for 2nd dues installment payment. 
  • January 21 - holiday and no winter conditioning 
  • January 25 - student holiday, but winter conditioning will be at the regular time 
  • January 26 Tag Day
  • February 2 - Erg Sprints and Tag Day
  • February 3 (2-3pm) - Last swim test at Audrey Moore Rec Center Pool 
  • February 4 - student holiday, but winter conditioning will be at the regular time 
  • February 6 (7-9pm) - Woodson Crew Boosters Board Meeting, WT Woodson, room C-123 
  • February 7 (7-9pm) - Parent On-the-Water Meeting in WT Woodson Cafeteria B 
  • February 9 - USNA Field Trip 
  • February 16 - Deadline for all registration paperwork and 3rd dues installment payment 
  • February 16 - Boathouse workday (sign-up here) and tour of Sandy Run 
  • February 19 - On the Water Practice Begins!
