Thank you to all who were able to join us at the Boathouse Workday. We got a great deal accomplished and are ready to go on the water tomorrow (Tuesday)!

We also welcomed our new member of our fleet. This beauty has been named the Constellation by Katie Kazimer, WTW Crew Alumna and Woodson Sports Hall of Fame inductee! We plan to have a more official christening ceremony later in the Spring.

1. REMINDER: We are on the water starting tomorrow (Tuesday)! Remember to dress warmly, wear appropriate athletic footwear (i.e. running shoes), and bring a large, full water bottle as the water at the river is not turned on yet. We encourage parents who are looking for carpool opportunities to or from practice (those whose student-athletes need rides and those who are willing to offer rides to student-athletes) to join the #carpool channel on our wt-woodson-crew-slack.com Slack page and share your needs or availability.

2. REMINDER: Parent Social this Friday, February 22nd from 7:30-10:30pm. Please sign-up here. We hope you will come enjoy this relaxed social gathering before Regatta season kicks in! It's a great opportunity to meet and connect with Coaches and other Crew Parents (both seasoned and new!). Adults only. This is a heavy appetizer & dessert, BYO-adult beverage event!

There will also be a raffle or auction for four tickets in an executive suite (including food and drinks) to a Wizards vs. Timberwolves game on Sunday, March 3rd.

3. REMINDER: Spirit Wear Store Open. Woodson Crew Spirit Wear Store is available and orders must be placed by midnight, February 24th. Click on the link above to access the site. Items ordered will be available for distribution before the first regatta on March 23rd.

This is optional spirit wear; none of the items from this site are required to be purchased. Rowers and coxswains will find many useful items and parents are also encouraged to order items for themselves (hats, polos, T-shirt’s, fleece). Wearing Spirit Wear to regattas is a great way to identify other Woodson fans to cheer with.

4. REMINDER: VASRA Volunteer Positions. We are required to provide volunteers for various VASRA (Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association) jobs before and during the Regattas we participate in at Sandy Run (aka Occoquan). We are fortunate this year to have many new families and ask at this time that each family sign up for one VASRA volunteer slot. If we do need to impose our 2nd volunteer requirement, the team will be informed. There are several dates, times, and locations within the park. (Please note: shifts with no ending times go until the work is done) Some jobs require a level of physical fitness or skill. Please please PLEASE check this link before you sign up to make sure you know what you are signing up for. All shifts on this signup below take place at regattas held at Sandy Run, 10450 Van Thompson Road, Fairfax Station. Please sign-up here.

6. NEW: Board and Chair Volunteers We wish to thank Monica Perry for stepping up as shadow for Babette Korn in the role of Uniform & Spirit Wear Chair. We are Woodson Crew family because of our amazing volunteers! Reminder that if you see a board or chair position that interests you, please let us know. You can email wtw.crew.president@gmail.com to learn more about the variety of opportunities available to keep the team rowing, growing, and winning. We are still actively seeking a shadow for our Treasurer and taking inquiries for the 2019/2020 President role as well.

7. NEW: Summer Rowing Camps. There are a lot of great opportunities to keep rowing over the summer. We have a list of many opportunities on our site and while we don’t endorse any specific camps, below are some of the most recent we received information from:
8. NEW: Help with Venue for our End of Year Party. We are already making plans for our end of year awards banquet and annual meeting of the association. We have targeted May 31st as the best date for the team; however, space at Woodson or Frost MS are not available. We are looking for suggestions for a community space (community center, corporate meeting rooms, etc.) that can accommodate approximately 200 people, with A/V capability, and a breakout room. If you have suggestions for a space that we can use, preferably for free, please contact wtwcrewsecretary@gmail.com.

  • March 15--Team Pictures at the river - athletes need their uniform. If you received a photo order form at the Parent On-the-Water Meeting, you can pre-order online or send in the order form and check with your student-athlete on March 15th. We discovered the ID # on the forms handed out at the On-the-Water meeting last week is not working. We have contacted the company and are awaiting a new ID # which we will share once received. Forms will also be available at the Parent Social on February 22nd as well as at the Parent Away Regatta Meeting on March 13th. Forms can be turned in on March 15th or also ordered after photos are taken.
