  1. No Winter Conditioning Tomorrow
  2. Slack Update: Parent Space and Student-Athlete Space
  3. Uniform Store Opens Tomorrow - Deadline Jan 28
  4. DEADLINE: Practice Bus Registration

1. NEW: No Winter Conditioning Tomorrow, Friday (January 18th). Instead, it is an opportunity for student-athletes to work on their homework and ensure their grades are in order before the end of the quarter so that their eligibility to compete is not affected as we approach regatta season.

2. UPDATES: Slack. Slack is a communications tool combining the best elements of text messaging and email. We are using Slack for coach and athlete communications and a separate Slack space for parent/guardian urgent communications.

Parent / Guardian Slack: In addition to push notifications for team related information such as weather cancellations, Slack creates a space for parents to be able to coordinate carpools, and other team related logistics.

We were unable to send Slack invites from the Slack wt-woodson-crew account directly to all parents/guardians as the system limits the number of pending invites at one time. All parents/guardians with last names beginning with A-O and emails registered in our system should have received email invites to sign up in the system.

For those we were not able to send an invite to from the Slack wt-woodson-crew account, see your email for an invite link you can click on and join from the link. The intent is for this Slack space to only be used by parents/guardians since the coach and student-athletes are using a separate Slack space.

Here is a link to an easy to use Slack guide.

Coach / Athlete Slack: Your athlete’s coach or team captains have likely reached out to your athlete to sign up for Slack. Athletes have a separate Slack account so that they may communicate practice, training, and regatta information. In regards to the coach and student-athlete Slack space, it was brought to our attention that Slack has Customer-specific Supplements related to Education Professional use (Section IV) which we want to highlight for parents/guardians. It states:

“If Customer is a school or educator in the United States and wants its students, who are over the age of 13, to use the Services, Customer is responsible for complying with the U.S. Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”). This means Customer must notify those students’ parents/guardians of the personally identifiable information that it will collect and share with us and obtain parental/guardian consent before its students sign up or use the Services. When obtaining such consent, Customer should provide parents/guardians with a copy of our Privacy Policy.”

As such, we are sharing this and the link above to the Slack Privacy Policy with you all and have sent specific emails to parents/guardians of student-athletes under the age of 16 to obtain consent.

If a parent/guardian decides not have their child on Slack, we encourage them to sign up for the parent Slack, keep an eye on Twitter, the weekly emails, and all of our other means of communication. Your athlete may also keep in touch with their team captain via text to receive timely practice related information.

3. NEW: Uniform Store Opens Tomorrow! We will send the link out tomorrow. If you are new to the team, you are required to purchase both a uni-suit and a tech shirt. If you are a returning rower, no need to order unless your uniform no longer fits, is damaged, or is missing! Please refer to the sizing guidelines on the website. If you are in-between sizes, go up a size. Coach Tylander recommends freshmen, male rowers go up a size, especially if they are between sizes. Please be careful that you order a uni-suit for the appropriate gender; a male uni fits very differently than one made for a female. The page will open with Woodson Crew specific uniforms as well as optional gear like compression shorts, sports bras, and splash jackets. The store will be open from January 18th until midnight January 28th.

4. REMINDER: Don’t Miss the Bus! It is the final days to sign up for the practice bus. Practice Bus registration is due no later than this Saturday, January 19, 2019.

Parents of new rowers, take some advice from seasoned parents - the bus is much more than a "nice to have" it is a huge help in getting your students to and from the river!

To register and for more information including bus schedules, visit Practice Bus Information on our website. Please make your check for $500 payable to WTW Crew Boosters and mail it (or drop off) to the WTW Crew Booster Vice President by the January 19th deadline. Payment by PayPal is also an option for the 2018-2019 season.
