Help Needed for 2021-22 Crew Board, Winter Conditioning, Spring Sport Schedule Overview and more

posted Feb 16, 2021, 12:47 PM by Anne Fernandez

Thanks to everyone for supporting our very special fundraiser with Cameron’s Coffee and Chocolates. It was a great success, and we couldn’t have done it without you. See below for some updates about the spring sports schedule, winter conditioning and our volunteer needs to both make this season and next season the best they can be.

In this email (details below):

  1. Help needed

  2. Winter Conditioning

  3. Rescheduled Boathouse Work Day (PARENTS ONLY)

  4. One Woodson Oar Available

  5. Season Reminder

  6. Registration is Open

  1. We still need help coordinating restaurant night fundraisers for the remainder of the season — Thank you to everyone who responded to our call for volunteers last week. We’re still looking for help to help us coordinate a handful of restaurant/food truck nights so we can do some fundraising while maintaining social distance. Contact Julie Middleton, the president of the W.T. Woodson Crew Boosters at wtw.crew.president@gmail.com to help out.

We also are looking to fill a handful of vacancies for the 2021-22 Woodson Crew Boosters Board of Directors. Contact Julie at the email address above to learn more about the open positions or to join the nominating committee and help us recruit the next team who will lead the board.

  2. Winter Conditioning — Next week, the pause on out-of-season workouts ends  and we will resume Winter Conditioning. Assuming we get the full go-ahead from FCPS, we’ll continue conducting conditioning outdoors, with masks, on the basketball courts. The tentative schedule is male athletes on the court from 3:45-5:15 Monday-Thursday and female athletes on the court from 4:45-6:15 Tuesday-Friday. Don’t forget, you must wear a mask for the full practice, and you must have your physical and ECF on file.Physicals must be sent to the trainer at Woodson and the ECF can be updated on the Woodson Athletics website: https://wtwoodson-ar.rschooltoday.com/We’ll also require completion of pre-screening forms. We’ll notify everyone when we’re fully confirmed from FCPS and are cleared to start 2/22.

  3. Boathouse Workday, No Students Permitted POSTPONED, NEW DATE SATURDAY, FEB 20 — Thank you to everyone who signed up to help us Saturday. Unfortunately the weather had other plans so we couldn’t move the boats back into the boathouse. The new date is Saturday, Feb 20, at 1 PM. Remember, we are not allowed to bring students on-site for this activity so we need parents (and alumni) to help us make quick work. Sign up here.

  4. Woodson Oars Available — Six lucky families won the bidding and took home Woodson rowing oars in our virtual silent auction. There is one more oar available if you have a rec room in need of that perfect crew design element. It can be yours for a donation of $200. Contact our Treasurer Suzy Peeler at wtwcrewtreasurer@gmail.com to find out how to get your own.

  5. Season Reminder —  Just a reminder that we enter the Fall sports season this week and the remaining schedule for high school sports looks like this:

    • Season 2/Fall sports — February 15 - May 1
    • Season 3/Spring sports — April 12 - June 26 (This includes rowing)

While we await guidance from our parent organization, VASRA, on the exact schedule of weekend events and how they will be impacted by COVID mitigation procedures, we’re still gearing up for on-the-water rowing. That means we’re planning on getting down to the river as soon as our season begins April 12. Tentatively, we’re aiming for the first regatta on May 1. More on what this looks like in the weeks to come.

  6. Registration is OPEN — For registered families, the second payment in our tiered payment schedule was processed. Since FCPS is still planning to return to hybrid in-person learning next month, we’re cautiously optimistic that everything is a go for getting on the water. Athletes can still register and registration will remain open until 4/12.

See the full breakdown of steps for registration as well as the fees for this year and the refund policy on the W.T. Woodson Crew website
