1. REMINDER: #GivingTuesday is Tomorrow, December 3. Giving Tuesday is a global phenomenon, designed to bring people together on one day in support of good causes after the hubbub and bargain hunting of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. For Woodson Crew, it’s a great time to remind friends of the sport, alumni families and others what it takes to make each season a success. Since we don’t receive funds from the school, we rely on the hard work of volunteers, your registration fees, and fundraising activities like Tag Days and restaurant nights to keep Woodson Crew afloat. Giving Tuesday is a great time to recognize and support that work. If you know someone with a connection to crew as a sport or the Woodson Crew team, share our campaign with them

2. REMINDER: Restaurant Fundraiser at Noodles & Co. Bring this flyer and your appetite to Noodles & Co on Main Street in Fairfax between 4 and 8 PM TOMORROW, TUESDAY December 3rd and help Woodson Crew. Noodles and Co. will graciously donate 25% of the cost of your meal to the team. Have a hungry rower who just finished Winter Conditioning? Here’s your solution.

3. REMINDER: Winter Conditioning: Returning rowers started working out at Woodson last month and novice rowers begin winter conditioning tomorrow, Tuesday, December 3rd. Here is the schedule for winter conditioning:

Girls: 3:30-5:30 (2 hr) off ergs by 5:15

Boys: 5:00-7:00 (2 hr)

4. REMINDER: Team registration still open. Complete the first five steps of registration to join the team in Winter Conditioning at Woodson. Rowers must complete the full registration process no later than February 20th to participate in on-the-water activities. Everything you need to know about registration and the Crew season — including exactly what forms need to be filled and where to deliver them as well as all the deadlines — are outlined on our website. The early-bird rates are gone but you can still register for the team.

If you have questions about this process, please contact the W.T. Woodson Crew Membership team at wtwcrewmembership@gmail.com.

5. REMINDER: Practice bus signup is open. The Woodson Crew Boosters Association coordinates bus transportation between W.T. Woodson High School and Sandy Run Regional Park for on-the-water practices beginning in February. The fee for the bus is on top of regular dues. Only a few seats remain on the practice bus so register now and complete your payment via Paypal and send signed Bus Transportation Agreement no later than January 21, 2020. The fee per crew member is $530 for the 2020 season. Act fast!

6. REMINDER: Final Tag Day of 2019 is this Saturday — Tag Days Resume in January: All rowers and coxswains — including novices — are required to participate in some part of Tag Days. Returning rowers need to attend four Tag Day shifts and novice rowers must attend three shifts. Walking neighborhoods together helps our athletes spread the word about Crew, raise funds for the season and bond as a team. Please sign up now to fulfill your Tag Day requirement. The next Tag Day is this Saturday, December 7. The remaining dates are January 11 and 25, and February 1 and 8.

Please contact WTW Crew volunteer chair Susan Burger if you have questions about Tag Days at wtwcrewvolunteer@gmail.com

7. NEW: Holiday Fundraising Letters: In the spirit of Giving Tuesday, we would like to invite extended families and friends to contribute to our fundraising goal! Our athletes will take a few minutes from Winter Conditioning to send some letters on Monday December 9 (boys) and Tuesday December 10 (girls) in the cafeteria. Please arrive at 4:30 pm and bring contact information (street address and zip code, or email) for a handful of friends or family members who may be interested in supporting your athlete. We will spend 20 minutes writing quick personal notes before the kids begin their workout. Aside from Tag Days, this is our last big fundraising push before we get on the water. Please direct any questions (or mismatched stationery, cards, or envelopes!) to Kim Sandino at wtwcrewfundraising@gmail.com or 703-862-4158. Thank you!

8. NEW: 35th Annual Erg Sprints at T.C. Williams. Registration is open for one of the largest indoor rowing competitions for 18 and under rowers in the country, Saturday, February 1, 2020 at T.C. Williams High School. Look for 2,000 meter events as well as 20 and 30-minute, half marathon, marathon, relays, 500 meter sprints, double and quad slide, parent/child, and kids events. Athletes do not have to qualify to enter and all ages and levels of experience are welcome. Early registration closes December 31st. Get more information and register at www.ErgSprints.com

9. NEW: Spirit Wear Orders. Thank you for your spirit wear orders. Items will arrive mid-December, and we will announce the pickup dates in a future edition of this email and on the parent Slack channel. Uniforms ordered last year can be picked up at this time as well. Look for more information on uniforms for the 2019-20 season later this month.
