  1. Fundraising Survey: Families, we need your help! Our fundraising chair has put together a quick survey to identify people in our extended Woodson community who could help us fill our fundraising gap. In typical years, we raise tens of thousands of dollars via in-person initiatives like the craft show and tag days. This year, we will have many of the same costs (regardless of whether we have a season) and need to find creative ways to fill the gap. This survey will walk you through different ways to help (no donation needed!)

Take the survey at this link. Thank you!

  2. Volunteer Help: Another way you can ensure that this very different crew season is a success is by volunteering to make the team strong and help us close some of those gaps in community-driven fundraising. While we won’t need the army of volunteers to do in-person fundraising events like the craft show and tag days, we still need strategic support to help with some of the other activities we have planned. If you’d like to volunteer for any of the opportunities below, contact our Fundraising chair, Amelia DeSorrento at wtwcrewfundraising@gmail.com

    1. Restaurant Night Coordinator: As you can see below, we’ve already got restaurant nights under way. These are a great way to raise money and feed your family. Help us find restaurants with fundraising programs and schedule the nights.

    2. Wreath Sale Coordinator: We’re hoping to source wreaths and sell them during the holiday season.

    3. Trivia Night Coordinator: Help us put on a Zoom trivia night and raise money for Woodson Crew!

  3. Save the Date for Restaurant Nights: Please add these two opportunities to grab a bite and help Woodson Crew: On Wednesday, November 18, head to the Chipotle next to Woodson from 5-9 PM to enjoy a burrito and help the team. You can even order online ahead and use the code AGDXPTB to make sure Woodson Crew benefits!

Then on December 1, be sure to plan dinner at Noodles & Co on Main Street in Fairfax to give the team another fundraising boost! Stay tuned for more details!

  4. Woodson High Weight Room: You may have heard that the Woodson Athletic Boosters are working to improve the fitness and weight room at the high school. Help the Boosters with a project that will benefit every athlete at Woodson, including our rowers: https://gf.me/u/y5txci

  5. Eagle Scout Project: A former Woodson rower has decided to build steps and conduct other soil erosion prevention and safety upgrades at the Sandy Run crew racecourse finish line for his Eagle Scout Project. Find out how you can volunteer to help out or defray the cost of tools and equipment to make this project a success.

  6. Nominating Committee: It’s never too early to start thinking about the 2021-22 Woodson Crew Boosters Board. Since their rowers are graduating this year, we’ll have vacancies in the office of president, vice president for communications and treasurer heading into next season. We are looking for 3 volunteers to comprise our Nominating Committee and help us identify potential leadership candidates. Contact President, Julie Middleton at wtw.crew.president@gmail.com if you are interested.

  7. Reminder: As you probably have learned from various updates from Woodson and VHSL, the schedule for high school sports looks like this:

    • Season 1/Winter sports — December 14 - February 20
    • Season 2/Fall sports — February 15 - May 1
    • Season 3/Spring sports — April 12 - June 26 (This includes rowing)

The Crew Boosters board is continuing to work on this schedule with our parent organization, VASRA, and taking our cues from US Rowing which governs our sport.

While ‘yellow days’ wrap up this week, we’ll be watching closely how the other sports take on team practices and events to ensure that whatever season we’re able to have is safe and fun for our student athletes.

  8. Reminder — Erg rental return: If you rented an erg from the team, we’re planning to collect those November 21 from 9-11 AM with a makeup date of November 30 from 5-6 PM. We’ll keep you updated on this as a lot can happen in the next month.

  9. Don’t Forget — Amazon Smile: All through the holiday season, you can support Woodson Crew through Amazon Smile. If you don’t know about Amazon Smile, it’s a way to dedicate a small amount from every transaction on Amazon to the nonprofit of your choice. Here’s how to help W.T. Woodson Crew with every Amazon purchase:

    1. Start by heading to smile.amazon.com

    2. If you’ve never designated a nonprofit, log in to your amazon account.

    3. From there, you can select Woodson Crew as a nonprofit.

    4. If you’ve already picked a nonprofit to support but you want to switch over to supporting Woodson Crew, by clicking on this link and pressing the “Yes, change my charity” button.

    5. Now just be sure to start your shopping at smile.amazon.com.

    6. If you do your shopping on the Amazon app, you can use these instructions to make sure you support the team when you shop from your phone.
