Good morning,

In this email (details below):

  1. Fall Green Days

  2. Swim Tests

  3. USRowing Scholastic Honor Roll

  4. Recruiting: Help Us Grow W.T. Woodson Crew

Welcome back to school and to the 2019-2020 season!

1. Fall Green Days Schedule and Sign-Up Genius: Returning rowers and new recruits are welcome to participate in fall Green Days. Coaches ask that novice rowers attend their first Green Day on either a Tuesday or a Saturday to receive an on-the-water orientation with one of our coaching staff. The fall Green Days are:

  • September 24 and 26 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm and Saturday, September 28 from 8 to 10 am

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays in October: 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, and 17 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm

  • Saturdays in October: 5, 12, and 19 from 8 to 10 am

Returning Rowers/ Coxswains need a VHSL physical dated after May 1, 2019. Please turn into WTW Athletic Trainer, Rm. C158. Allow up to 5 business days for processing. If you are turning in your forms and wish to participate in a Green Day immediately, request a yellow acknowledgement slip at the trainer’s office.

Novice Rowers/ Coxswains need to complete the following:

1. VHSL Physical Form turned in to the WTW Athletic Trainer’s office, rm C158 at Woodson. If you are turning in your forms and wish to participate in a Green Day immediately, request a yellow acknowledgement slip at the trainer’s office.

2. Emergency Care Form

3. Swim Test (see dates and Sign-Up Genius below)

4. Sign-up to attend Fall Green Days on Sign-Up Genius

5. Sign the US Rowing Waiver (we will email a link to this document to everyone who signs up for Fall Green Days).

There is no shuttle bus; therefore your own transportation is required to and from all Green Day practices. All sessions are at Sandy Run Regional Park (10450 Van Thompson Road, Fairfax Station, VA).

2. Swim Tests: All novice rowers must attend one Swim Test session before participating in Green Days. Swim tests will be held from 2 to 3 pm Saturday September 7, Saturday September 14 and Sunday September 15.

Swim Tests are held at Audrey Moore Rec Center, 8100 Braddock Road, Annandale, VA. Use this Sign-Up Genius to let us know which date you’ll attend. (We also need one parent volunteer at each session. If you can help out, sign up at the same Sign-Up Genius link above.)

3. REMINDER: Seniors, here is the 2019-20 USRowing Scholastic Honor Roll application information. Applications can be sent in now and all nominations must be postmarked no later than Friday, September 6, 2019. Candidates will be selected based on their ranking of the academic criteria. Meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee selection for either Honorable Mention or Honor Roll.

4. We all love W.T. Woodson Crew!  Let’s grow our team together. Share the enthusiasm for your team by taking every opportunity to speak to other students and encouraging them to join the team. They can sign up here for more information or stop by one of the Fall Green Days (dates above) to give crew a try. Parents, you know other folks that are looking for a great experience for their student-athlete as well. Please use your networking channels (other teams, PTSO, volunteer connections, work, other coaches, places of worship, community centers or swimming pools) to promote our team and this rewarding sport. We will have a table at Back to School Night on Sept. 19th so all parents with questions can stop by for a visit there or at Cav Kickoff with their student.
