1. REMINDER: Fall Green Days Continue This Week. We had a great first week of fall Green Days (even though it didn’t feel much like fall)! Thank you! Remember, Green Days run Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays until October 19th (full schedule below). Returning rowers and new recruits are welcome to participate in fall Green Days. If you’re coming to your first ever green day practice to learn about Crew, please make sure you come on a Tuesday or a Saturday to receive an on-the-water orientation with one of our coaching staff. Everyone should SIGN UP HERE so we have a head count for Green Days!

The remaining fall Green Days are:

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays in October: 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, and 17 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm

  • Saturdays in October: 5, 12, and 19 from 8 to 10 am

Returning Rowers/ Coxswains need a VHSL physical dated after May 1, 2019. Please turn into WTW Athletic Trainer, Rm. C158. Allow up to 5 business days for processing. If you are turning in your forms and wish to participate in a Green Day immediately, request a yellow acknowledgement slip at the trainer’s office.

Novice Rowers/ Coxswains need to complete the following:

1. VHSL Physical Form turned in to the WTW Athletic Trainer’s office, rm C158 at Woodson. If you are turning in your forms and wish to participate in a Green Day immediately, request a yellow acknowledgement slip at the trainer’s office.

2. Emergency Care Form

3. Completed Swim Test (See below)

4. Sign-up to attend Fall Green Days on Sign-Up Genius

5. Sign the US Rowing Waiver (we will email a link to this document to new rowers who sign up for fall Green Days).

There is no shuttle bus; therefore your own transportation is required to and from all Green Day practices. All sessions are at Sandy Run Regional Park (10450 Van Thompson Road, Fairfax Station, VA).

2. NEW: By popular demand, another swim test date! At the request of many, we’ve scheduled an additional date for novice rowers to take a swim test. Come this Sunday, October 6 from 3-4 PM for the final opportunity this fall to take a swim test and participate in Green Days.

Swim Tests are held at Audrey Moore Rec Center, 8100 Braddock Road, Annandale, VA. Sign up here to let us know which date you’ll attend. (We also need one parent volunteer at each session. If you can help out, sign up at the same Sign-Up Genius link above.)

3. REMINDER: Restaurant Fundraiser: Join us at Noodles & Co on Main Street in Fairfax this Thursday, October 3rd from 4 to 8 PM for another WTW Crew Fundraiser. Be sure to bring or show this flyer to make sure the team benefits from your meal!

4. REMINDER: Launch Driver Training on Saturday, October 5th. Launch drivers have the best seats on the Occoquan, carrying referees down the course right behind your athlete’s boat. Woodson must deliver launch drivers to participate in the local regattas, or our team will be fined. WE NEED YOU! All are welcome and anyone can learn.

Coach Tylander will teach a Launch Driver class on Saturday, October 5th from 10:30am to 12:30pm (2 hours).  Attendance is limited and is open to any WTW Crew parent/guardian – anyone can learn. So become a Launch Boat Driver, qualify to meet a VASRA volunteer requirement, and follow the racers down the course! Sign up here!

5. NEW: Student Interest Meeting: Have a rower with questions about Crew or can’t make it to Green Days? W.T. Woodson Crew Head Coach Bryan Tylander will hold a student information sessions this Wednesday, October 2, at Woodson, in Cafeteria B from 3 PM to 4 PM. Come with your questions! If your fall is packed with other sports or activities, remember that Green Days are a great way to get to know crew but are optional. Winter conditioning for Crew begins in November and we begin on-the-water practices in February, so there’s time to find out if crew is right for you!

6. NEW:  Craft Show Volunteer Sign-Up Genius is available for student-athletes and parents to sign up for volunteer opportunities. This is one of our most important fundraising events. We need help spreading the word at events in October as well as closer to the craft fair and on the big day. We encourage all student-athletes and as many parents as possible to participate in this event.

7. SAVE THE DATE: Please join us on Thursday, October 17 from 7-9 PM for the 2019-2020 Parent’s Season Kick-off Meeting in the WT Woodson High School Cafeteria B. This is for parents of new and returning rowers/coxswains. We have a lot of information to share about the registration process and other changes this season so please plan to join us.

8. KEEP IN TOUCH: There are lots of ways to keep up with Woodson Crew. If you aren’t already, please follow us on Twitter @WoodsonCrew for all the latest news and updates.
