1. REMINDER: Final Week of Fall Green Days. We’re excited so many athletes have been able to come out for fall Green Days. Thank you! Hope to see a few more rowers and coxswains out for the last week of on-the-water time before February. See you Tuesday and Thursday this week from 4:30 to 6:30 or Saturday 10/10 from 8 to 10. Remember, SIGN UP HERE so we have a head count for Green Days!

Returning Rowers/ Coxswains need a VHSL physical dated after May 1, 2019. Please turn into WTW Athletic Trainer, Rm. C158. Allow up to 5 business days for processing. If you are turning in your forms and wish to participate in a Green Day immediately, request a yellow acknowledgement slip at the trainer’s office.

Novice Rowers/ Coxswains need to complete the following:

1. VHSL Physical Form turned in to the WTW Athletic Trainer’s office, rm C158 at Woodson. If you are turning in your forms and wish to participate in a Green Day immediately, request a yellow acknowledgement slip at the trainer’s office.

2. Emergency Care Form

3. Completed Swim Test (See below)

4. Sign-up to attend Fall Green Days on Sign-Up Genius

5. Sign the US Rowing Waiver (we will email a link to this document to new rowers who sign up for fall Green Days).

There is no shuttle bus; therefore your own transportation is required to and from all Green Day practices. All sessions are at Sandy Run Regional Park (10450 Van Thompson Road, Fairfax Station, VA).

2. HELP: WTW Crew Craft Show Volunteers Needed! The Craft Show is one of our most important fundraising opportunities and a great chance for parents and athletes to get volunteer credit. We need volunteers to post signs around Woodson the week before the big day, to set up the night before and to help vendors get ready on the day of the show. We also need lots of support and contributions to the Bake Sale during the show. You can learn more about the craft show here and sign up now to volunteer.

3. THIS WEEK: Parent Information Session: Please join us on Thursday, October 17 from 7-9 PM for the 2019-2020 Parent’s Season Kick-off Meeting in the WT Woodson High School Cafeteria B. This is for parents of new and returning rowers/coxswains. We have a lot of information to share about the registration process and other changes this season so please plan to join us.

4. NEW: We Need More Launch Drivers: Launch Driver Training #2 this Saturday, October 19th. Launch drivers have the best seats on the Occoquan, carrying referees down the course right behind your athlete’s boat. Woodson must deliver launch drivers to participate in the local regattas, or our team will be fined. WE NEED YOU! All are welcome and anyone can learn.

Coach Tylander will teach a Launch Driver class on Saturday, October 19th from 10:30am to 12:30pm (2 hours).  Attendance is limited and is open to any WTW Crew parent/guardian – anyone can learn. So become a Launch Boat Driver, qualify to meet a VASRA volunteer requirement, and follow the racers down the course! Sign up here!

5. NEW: WT Woodson Football Concessions Sign-up: W.T. Woodson Crew has the opportunity to run the concession stand at the home football game Friday, October 25th. This is a great opportunity to watch the game while earning money for the crew team. Please sign-up here

6. NEW: Erg Rental Return: If you rented an erg at the end of last season to keep in shape over the summer, it’s time to bring them back so we can kick off winter conditioning next month. Please plan to return rented ergs between 9 and 11 on the Craft Show Day, November 2, then head over to the Craft Show and check it out. We need a few rowers to help us at this time getting the ergs set for winter conditioning. Sign up here to help out our logistics and equipment team.

7. SAVE THE DATE: Fall Boathouse Workday: Once Green Days conclude this week, we’ll need to clean and lock down the boathouse and launches for the winter. We need rowers and some parents to volunteer to make sure we’re prepared for a great start when we’re back on the water in February. The fall boathouse workday will be from 9 to noon on November 16th. Sign up here to volunteer.

8. NEW: Tag Days: This door-to-door fundraising outreach spreads the word about Woodson Crew, helps the athletes bond and provides valuable funds to support our team. All athletes are required to participate in some part of Tag Days. We will soon be opening sign-ups to participate and to seek parent hosts for each Tag Day. Parent hosts also receive volunteer credit so this is a great way to fulfill those hours. If you are interested in hosting a Tag Day at your home, please contact Susan Burger at wtwcrewvolunteer@gmail.com  Please save these dates to participate in Tag Days, Saturdays throughout the winter: November 16 and 23, December 7, January 11 and 25, and February 1 and 8.

9. NEW: Woodson Crew Fundraising at A.C. Moore AND Flippin’ Pizza: Help the Crew Team by shopping at A.C. Moore or eating pizza — or both! November 8, bring this flyer with you to A.C. Moore all day and Woodson Crew receives a donation from your purchase. And the next day, November 9, head over to Flippin’ Pizza with this flyer (and mention it on the phone if ordering ahead) and the team benefits as well.

10. NEW: Graphic Artist Help Needed: If you’ve got graphic design skills and your own equipment, the crew boosters need you. We have some design needs and would love to work with a crew parent who wants to help. Get in touch with the VP for Communication about volunteering at wtwcrewcommunications@gmail.com. Thanks!

11. NEW: VASRA Concession Stand Operator Position Open: If you have small business and/or small team leadership skills, VASRA — the organization which operates our regattas — needs someone to lead the management of the two concession stands at the course during events. The previous manager prepared detailed instructions, and will be available to meet with a new concessions lead to help guide them in this primary profit-earning duty for VASRA. This is a great way to help WTW Crew and all the competitors participating in our rowing season. If you want to know more, contact Joe Hester, Woodson's VASRA representative, at wtwcrewvasra@gmail.com.

12. SAVE THE DATE: Registration and Winter Conditioning: Registration to join the crew team opens next week (come the parent info night and look out for a special email with all the details) and with it begins Winter Conditioning. Athletes will workout at the school through the fall and winter until hitting the water in mid-February. Winter Conditioning begins November 21st for returning rowers, and December 2nd for new rowers. Learn more about the Woodson Crew regular practice schedule and requirements at this week's parent information meeting Thursday night, 10/17.
