We have several volunteer needs this weekend. If you can help with any of the below, please sign-up through the links.  Thank you to all of our amazing families who volunteer and help make the season possible.

~ 1 Friday AM VASRA shopper

~ 1 Friday night dinner chaperone

~ 2 Saturday RAFT helpers 7-10am

~ 1 Saturday RAFT helper 1-4pm

~ 1 Saturday Halley ES shuttle volunteer 5pm

~ 2-3 Sunday yard sale helpers 11-2pm

We also ask that you please post our Yard Sale to your NextDoor, Facebook, and community listserves or sites!  We have clothing for the whole family, sports equipment, frames, kitchenware, kids toys & games, and even a canoe for sale from 8-2 on Sunday, April 28 to benefit the WTW Crew Boosters.  The Woodson Crew Team gets no funding from FCPS or Woodson and this fundraiser will go a long way towards equipment and river fees!

1. REMINDER: Pre-Regatta Dinner Food Assignments for all families. Our next pre-regatta dinner is tomorrow, Friday from 7-9pm hosted by MacKenna Weinberg and family (Melissa Weinberg). Thank you for hosting and to the parents who have signed up to help. Here are the dinner and RAFT food assignments for all families.  Note these are not in alphabetical order, but ordered by dish type. If an athlete’s last name falls between the names listed then that is their food assignment.

Please bring the assigned food items to the pre-regatta dinner promptly at 7pm, even if your student-athlete is unable to attend the dinner.

2. REMINDER: More Hey Day Treats Welcome Today. Our team captains will be representing the team at Hey Day tomorrow, Friday, and they need your support! Please sign-up to make or purchase sweet treats for them to sell at the team booth. Donations should be packaged for individual sale, the cuter the better!

All baked goods can be given to any team captain this evening or dropped off at the Woodson front office by 9am tomorrow, Friday, please make sure they are clearly labeled. Questions or concerns, contact Jenn Ros wtwcrewmembership@gmail.com.

Student-athletes, we hope you are able to stop by the WTW Crew table during Hey Day to say hello and show your support.

3. REMINDER: Stotesbury Registration Information. By today, the coaches will notify those students who will be going to Stotesbury. You can find all the forms and links on the wtwcrew.org front page. Forms and payments are due no later than May 4th. This includes dropping off or sending the completed forms:

  • Parent Permission Form;

  • Emergency Contact Form (if not already submitted or you need to provide an update);

  • Luggage Form;  

  • Student Code of Conduct;  

  • Medication Form; and

  • $385 check made payable to WTW Crew Boosters and mailed or dropped off to Lesley Kowalski at 8306 Chapel Lake Rd, Annandale, VA 22003. You may also pay via PayPal. If  you use PayPal, please note on your paperwork (which must still be dropped off or sent in) that you paid through PayPal.

  • Also, if parents and family members are attending and would like to eat with the student-athletes, please fill out this form and send appropriate payment for these meals separate from the payment for the student-athlete fee of $385.

Packets and payments can also be turned in at the start of the Pasta Dinners this and next Friday (April 26 and May 4). Thank you to those who have already submitted their forms and payments.  

4. REMINDER: Rummage Sale this Sunday, April 28th from 8-2pm. Shifts available for any parent and/ or rower either needing volunteer hours or just enjoying setting up a yard sale! We have lots of treasures to sell at the Yard Sale!  We do have room for more, and we could really use more folding tables and another clothing rack or two! All shifts will be at the Sandino’s home, 8600 Canterbury Drive Annandale. Please sign-up here to volunteer.

5. UPDATE: Volunteer Opportunities Available. Thank you again to the student-athletes and parents who have signed up to help in various roles so far!  As mentioned above, we do still have some volunteer opportunities available. Here are the sign-up genius links for the Halley ES Shuttle (one slot left), RAFT (three slots left for next weekend), VASRA Concession Shopping, and VASRA (especially need boat drivers at States on May 4 and 11).

IMPORTANT REMINDER: If you are not able to fulfill your obligation, please don’t just remove your name from the sign-up genius, but please also notify our volunteer coordinator at wtwcrewvolunteer@gmail.com so we can ensure we fill the vacant slot and avoid being fined if it is a VASRA slot.

6. REMINDER: No Bus Friday. You can use the #carpool channel in Slack to coordinate rides with other parents.

7. REMINDER: Al Urquia Regatta this Saturday. Student-athletes will be told which boat they will be on and what time to arrive. The schedule is reversed this weekend so the 8s are in the morning and the 4s are in the afternoon. As a general rule and unless told otherwise by a coach, rowers must be at the boathouse no later than two hours before their scheduled race, and coxswains must be there for the coxswains’ meeting.  

The heat sheets are not available yet, so we recommend following @VASRAResults on Twitter and watching our Home Page or VASRA’s Home Page where they have a heat sheet link for more information as well.

We also want to remind everyone to follow the posted speed limits driving to and from the river and in Sandy Run Park.

If you want to save some money (it costs $20 to park at Sandy Run during a regatta), you have the opportunity to use the Halley Elementary School (ES) at 8850 Cross Chase Cir, Fairfax Station, VA 22039 (formerly operated out of Silverbrook Elementary School) shuttle which is free to student-athletes and family members from our school and a few others who contribute to it.
