Coronavirus impact

Good morning families,

As everyone is aware, the rapidly escalating caution necessary to contain the risk of spreading coronavirus has impacted almost every aspect of life. We’d like to update families on how all of this will change crew life for the next month.

First, as always, know that the safety of your kids — our kids — is the top priority of the Woodson Crew Boosters.

From here, as the announcement from FCPS made clear, there are no practices or other after-school activities until April 12. That means experienced rowers are encouraged to practice on ergs which coaches sent home earlier this week, and novice rowers will be given workouts they can do at home to stay in shape.

Because of this cancellation, we will not be attending the St. Andrews invitational regatta, and our parent organization VASRA has opted to cancel the regattas at Sandy Run during that window. Therefore the following events will not take place:

  • March 21, Polar Bear Regatta, Sandy Run Regional Park

  • March 28, St. Andrews Invitational Regatta, Middletown, DE

  • April 4, Walter Mess Regatta, Sandy Run Regional Park

  • April 11, Darryl Winslow Regatta, Sandy Run Regional Park

As the timeline of the FCPS suspension includes Spring Break, our plans for practice over the break have also been cancelled. Any spring break practice bus reservation fees will be refunded.

Finally, for now there will be no volunteer opportunities offered either through VASRA or the team. Obviously, this will be an unusual season when everything is said and done. All families will receive credit for signing up to perform any volunteer work during the hiatus.

We have high hopes that all of these steps will flatten the curve and allow life to return to some level of normalcy later in the spring. In the meantime, we’re grateful for everything families have done to get us here, and we’re looking forward to getting the team back on the water in the future.

Thank you, and as always, pull for Woodson!
