  1. Restaurant Night THIS WEEK: Grab a bite and help Woodson Crew: Wednesday, November 18, order ahead and pick up dinner at Chipotle near Woodson from 5-9 PM to help the team. Be sure to use the code AGDXPTB when you order ahead to make sure Woodson Crew benefits! And if you walk-in, be sure to tell them you’re ordering for the Woodson Crew fundraiser.

Then, on Tuesday, December 1, plan to pick up dinner from Noodles & Co on Main Street in Fairfax to give the team another fundraising boost! Order online with the code GIVING50 or pick up in person between 4 and 8 PM to make sure your dinner helps the team.

  2. Updates: Though the situation with COVID is moving in the wrong direction for many states (and even other parts of Virginia), we remain cautiously optimistic that the numbers will hold here and sports can begin later this year. We’ll keep a close eye on the decisions by FCPS, VHSL which sanctions high school sports in Virginia as well as VASRA, our parent organization representing rowing in the commonwealth. With that said, we’re tentatively planning for winter conditioning and a proper season based on the schedule we include later in this note. We have added an additional (weather-permitting) Yellow Day practice this week but have reduced the slots to ensure we stay within the governor’s new COVID guidelines. We know we’ll have a lot of ground to cover when we’re finally able to get rowers on the water early next year. In the meantime, stay tuned and check out some ways below you can make sure we have a successful season.

  3. Silent Auction: Seeking creative gifts for friends and family? Look no further than our virtual silent auction! Bid on items like 3 months of ship-to-home flower arrangement kits, a week at a lakefront vacation home, your own Woodson Rowing oar to hang on the wall and 30+ other great items. The auction will go live on Black Friday, November 27th and bidding will continue for a week. Thanks to our sponsor Donovan & Wagner, P.C. as well as our incredible volunteers, every dollar raised will benefit the Woodson crew boosters to help us have a successful season.

Look for an email next week with details on how you can browse the catalog and bid on great gifts. And don’t forget to share it widely to help the team!

  4. Wreath Sale: Thank you to all who ordered a wreath or shared the order information with friends and family. We sold out in record time, and we’re excited to have a new fundraising opportunity for the future. If you ordered a wreath, keep an eye out for pickup/drop-off information closer to Thanksgiving. And in the meantime let us know if you have any questions. Thank you to Cheri Brown for stepping up and coordinating this fundraiser!!

  5. Volunteer Help: We are still looking for help with other fundraising events including restaurant nights or helping to put on a Zoom trivia night fundraiser. We are also gearing up for Valentine’s Day fundraiser. If you are interested in supporting any of these events, we would love to hear from you. Contact our Fundraising chair, Amelia DeSorrento at wtwcrewfundraising@gmail.com.

  6. Reminder: As you probably have learned from various updates from Woodson and VHSL, the schedule for high school sports looks like this:

    • Season 1/Winter sports — December 14 - February 20
    • Season 2/Fall sports — February 15 - May 1
    • Season 3/Spring sports — April 12 - June 26 (This includes rowing)

The Crew Boosters board is continuing to work on this schedule with our parent organization, VASRA, and taking our cues from US Rowing which governs our sport.

  7. Reminder — Erg rental return: If you rented an erg from the team, we’re planning to collect ergs THIS SATURDAY November 21 from 9-11 AM with a makeup date of November 30 from 5-6 PM. If you have an erg, our logistics and equipment team will be in touch to coordinate safe pickup so we can prepare for winter conditioning.

  8. Don’t Forget — Amazon Smile: All through the holiday season, you can support Woodson Crew through Amazon Smile.
