1. REMINDER: Restaurant Fundraiser today, Monday, February 4. Although today is a student holiday, winter conditioning will be at the regular time and Chipotle restaurant (9506 Main Street, Fairfax) fundraiser is 4-8pm. Please come out, support the team, and invite friends! We must meet the $300 threshold to receive the fundraiser donation from Chipotle. Here is the link to the flyer. Please ensure you bring the flyer with you.

2. REMINDER: U.S. Naval Academy Field Trip to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland is this Saturday, February 9th. The cost is $30 per rower, cash or checks made out to WT Woodson Crew Boosters can be brought to practice or payment is also available via PayPal here. Payments must be made no later than today, Monday, February 4th.

Due to the large number of novices this year, we do not have enough uni-suits to loan for the Naval Academy trip, therefore the decision was made to use the winter conditioning t-shirts for that purpose. Everyone going to the Naval Academy must wear their winter conditioning t-shirts over their boat-ready workout wear. These will be distributed at conditioning today.

All rowers participating in the Saturday Naval Academy Field Trip must meet at the main front door of Woodson at 9:45am. Be sure to bring snacks, water, and a bagged lunch for the day. Return time to Woodson is expected to be at 6:30 pm, but students will be in touch with parents to coordinate pick ups within 30 minutes of returning.

3. REMINDER: Parent On-the-Water Meeting on this Thursday, February 7th from 7-9pm in WT Woodson Cafeteria B. Winter conditioning is nearly over. Join us to learn what to expect from crew once the competitive regatta season starts. We will share important information for novice and returning parents alike. Board representatives, coaches, and team captains will be on hand to answer questions. Membership will have blank Parent/Student Driver forms and help parents sign USRowing Waivers that night.

4. NEW: Proper Footwear. As we approach the competitive season and conduct more strenuous workouts, it is important to ensure that your rower has proper footwear. Improper, old, or worn-out athletic shoes can put undue strain on hips, ankles, and knees. Workouts at the boathouse, ashore and on-the-water, include running (hills, long runs, circuits, ergs, power pieces). Athletic shoes that are more than six months old and have been used regularly for activities or other sports may be worn out. If your rower needs recommendations regarding footwear, they may consult with their coach.

5. NEW: Lightweight Testing. Any boy under 155 lb and any girl under 135 lb is strongly encouraged to go through the lightweight testing protocol to determine if they can safely and healthily row in a lightweight boat. Going through the testing protocol does not mean you will row in a lwt boat, but missing the testing means you can not be considered for one. This will take place during winter conditioning on the following dates:
  • Tuesday, Feb 12th 3:30 -- Girls
  • Wednesday, Feb 13th 3:30 -- Boys
  • Thursday, Feb 14th -- Make-up
One of the key components of the testing protocol is hydration, so athletes that plan on getting tested should drink LOTS of fluids in the 48 hours before they test. If you have any questions about what the testing entails feel free to contact Coach Tylander at btylander@gmail.com

6. NEW: WTW Crew Boathouse Workday February 16th at Sandy Run Regional Park, 10450 Van Thompson Rd, Fairfax Station. To volunteer, please sign-up here. When you get to Sandy Run, please go to Boathouse #1 to meet the other WTW Crew volunteers.

7. NEW: Scrip. Are you ready for Valentines Day? Scrip can help and is a great way to support team fundraising at the same time. Email wtwcrewfundraising@gmail.com to sign up for E-Scrip for E-gift cards which give great rebates to the team: Maggiano's - 16%, Mortons -10%, SpaFinder-17%. And See's Candies - 20% on a physical gift card.

8. REMINDER: Volunteer Opportunity. Shadow to Board Treasurer - Our current treasurer, Allison Kim, is the parent of a senior. Therefore, the role of treasurer for the board of directors will be open next year. She has done an outstanding job in the role for two years and will set the next treasurer up for success. Because of the importance of this role, we are looking for someone to shadow Allison for the remainder of this year and then take over next year. (after official election at the annual meeting in June.) A shadow in this role will earn 50% of the volunteer credits this year = 1 VASRA commitment, 2 team commitments.

If you have skills as a bookkeeper or experience with accounting and are interested in learning more about the position, please email board president, Mary Claire Boucher, at wtw.crew.president@gmail.com. Full description of the Treasurer's role can be found on page 5 of our by-laws.
