The WTW Crew website will always have the most relevant information you need to know, including anything urgent or time sensitive. Please check the site often. We also share important information on Twitter @WoodsonCrew 1. WTW Crew Are State Champions! On Saturday, WTW Crew was not hindered by the rain in the VSRC Day 1 Regatta. All three WTW boats advanced to the finals, and all Woodson boats captured medals in the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championships! The Men’s 3rd Varsity 8+ won the Gold by open water, defeating 2nd place Yorktown and 3rd place Oakton by 5+ seconds! Congrats to Brandon Snyder, Michael Yi, James Mullet, Rory McAlevy, Wyn Adams, Katon Zhang, Nick Shawley, Sam Muras, and Avery Whittle (coxswain). And what a way for seniors Michael & Wyn to go out in their final race on the Occoquan! The Men’s Novice 8+ finished 2nd in their qualifying heat, and then rowed a great race in the Grand Final to win Silver, defeating Oakton, Broad Run, TC Williams, and West Springfield handily! Congrats to Beau Sandino, Heston McClintick, Joseph Bishop, Walter Kowalski, Le Chen, William Mullet, Zachary Borja, Mason Phalan, and Krish Soni (coxswain). The Women’s Novice 8+ won their qualifying heat -- eliminating Broad Run, Westfield, Oakton, and South County -- and then rowed impressively in the Grand Final to win Bronze! In the Final, WTW was less than a boat length behind Silver-medalist TC Williams, and defeated West Springfield, W&L, and Lake Braddock handily! Congrats to Jocelyn Phipps, Rachel Mailand, Meng Li, Lauren Ollis, Abigail Pesansky, Nicole Curtis, Natalie Moran, Jules Heimbigner, and Evelyn Baltz (coxswain). Thank you again to all the parents who volunteered at the RAFT and in VASRA jobs. Thank you also to all the parents who were so flexible with the changes in the VASRA volunteer positions this past weekend. Those volunteers will receive double credit from Saturday's Regatta. 2. REMINDER: Stotesbury forms were due on Friday, 5 May, if you haven't turned in your athletes forms please turn them in as soon as possible. Do not wait on your athlete to complete the Field Trip Notification form before turning in the rest of the forms, it is understood that some teacher do not like to sign the form until a couple days before the field trip. It is important that all the other forms are completed to ensure we have an accurate head count. Also, the Bromberg’s have a hotel room reserved in Philadelphia (same hotel as the team) for Stotesbury which they are not going to use. If any parents are interested in taking the room rather than them releasing it back to hotel, please contact wtwcrewcommunications@gmail.com by this Sunday, 14 May. 3. REMINDER: There will be no practice bus this Friday, 12 May. 4. NEW: Rowers and Seniors' Parents, plan on attending the Senior Night Pre-Regatta Dinner (requires authentication *) this week will be at the Cameron family home from 7-9pm. It is tradition to wear Senior Night T-Shirts on Friday to school and to the team dinner before the VSRC Day 2 Regatta. Shirts for Senior Night have been distributed to those who paid. IF you have not paid, please bring your money on Monday or Tuesday to practice. Haley Cole will have shirts at practice on Tuesday and Wednesday for those who paid the day before. Again, remember to wear your shirts on Friday! Lastly, after distribution, some shirts were mixed up at last Friday’s team dinner; please VERIFY you have your correct size. If you are not sure of what size you should have, contact Haley Cole. Please see the link for the food assignments (requires authentication *) this week (Pre-Regatta Dinner and VSRC Day 2 Regatta). Families of Seniors, unless you have a younger sibling on the team, there is NO food assignment for Seniors! Parents of Seniors are invited to the team dinner. Coxswains, please check your food assignments as there are food assignments for all Coxswains (except Seniors). Thank you to ALL our families for making the dinners and RAFT a resounding success. We could not have done this without you and your contributions! 5. NEW: For next year's crew season there are many available Crew Boosters positions. The WTW Crew Boosters Nominating Committee is formed every year to nominate individuals to serve on Board seats. Crew Boosters needs, at a minimum, two more members on the Nominating Committee and an Nominating Chair. Current nominating members are Benton Fischer and Rebecca Phalan. Please submit your interests to wtwcrewpresident@gmail.com. The Nominating Committee will then meet at a convenient date/time for members within three weeks to review persons interested in WTW Crew Boosters positions. Elections will be held at the Crew Awards dinner on 10 June. Open positions can be seen here. 6. Believe it or not, it is time to start planning for the 2017-2018 school year. The first step toward eligibility to participate in any preseason or after school athletic event is to complete a sports physical on an official VHSL Pre-participation Physical Examination (PPE) form (new form for 2017-2018 school year is titled “FEB2017”). The Woodson High School Athletic Training Department will be offering sports physicals at Woodson High School on 19 June. This successfully completed physical will be good for all sports and out of season practices (green days, yellow days, weight room workouts) for the 2017-2018 school year. This event is a fundraiser for the Woodson High School Athletic Training Department. The cost of the physicals is $50 when you register online ($60 at the door space permitting). You can register here. They are always looking for medical and non-medical volunteers to assist for the event. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Ms. Fickes, kfickes@fcps.edu, or click on the registration link to sign up. Don’t forget the student and parent concussion education must also be completed annually!! 7. NEW: Is your rower or coxswain participating in a summer rowing program? You may be required to provide proof of passing a swim test before he/she can start. Please email Jean Boyle at wtwcrewmembership@gmail.com to obtain a copy of your student-athlete’s WTW Crew Team Swim Test results. 8. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
