1. ALL WOODSON BOATS ADVANCED TO FINALS at the Polar Bear Regatta to kick-off another racing season for WTW Crew! Woodson raced six 8+ boats – and three finished in the Top 3, with another only one second out of 3rd.
  • The Men’s 2V-8+ rowed two solid races, winning their heat and finishing 2nd in Finals – James Livingston, Colin McCarthy, James Mullet, Richie Evans, Grant McHale, Katon Zhang, Ethan Pepper, Ethan Feng, and Sebastian Bushey (coxswain).
  • The Women’s Lightweight 8+ also finished 2nd in Finals – Joy Kim, Mya Rowe, Kathryn Taheri, Katlyn Howard, Reagan Smith, Paige Evans, Sierra Boucher, Sophie Mills, and Haley Cole (coxswain).
  • The Women’s 1V-8+ finished 2nd in their heat and 3rd in Finals – Hannah Fisher, Brooke Leech, Gabriella Hayes, Elizabeth Giglia, Jenna Hissong, Rowan Sprouse, Rose van der Horst, Claire Hutcheson, and Erica Schneider (coxswain). This is the first time in many years that Woodson has entered a First Varsity 8 in this highly competitive event.
  • The Men’s 3V-8+ finished 3rd in their heat and rowed an inspiring final, narrowly missing 3rd place by one second – Brandon Snyder, Michael Yi, Brandon Tse, Heston McClintick, Jung Won Lee, Aaron Shurberg, Gavin Bromberg, Thomas Koerner, and Avery Whittle (coxswain).
  • The Men’s 1V-8+ won their heat, and did not place in the final – Jack Ning, Adrian Michel, Miles Knight, Larry Cai, Michael Boyle, Ryan Sarratt, Trevor von Christierson, Ethan Kutia, and Gwen Cameron (coxswain).
  • The Women’s 2V-8+ finished 3rd in their heat, and did not place in the final – Rachel Hundley, Sage Boucher, Christina Moore, Lauren Ollis, Kesem Solell-Knepler, Stephanie Scorgie, Gracie Rollins, Olivia Nicholas, and Carolyn Wong (coxswain).
We congratulate the 54 WTW rowers and coxswains who participated in Saturday’s regatta – especially those who competed for Woodson Crew for the first time!

2. We had a great pre-regatta party last Friday! Everyone had a great time and ate lots of good food! A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered to make the pre-regatta pasta party a success, the RAFT tent, and volunteers at the river. Thank you also to Serena Scorgie-Mullet for taking photos and Michael Yi for the editing of “coxswain viewpoint” videos of the actual races - fabulous to watch! The videos and photos can be seen in the WTW Crew Photo Gallery.

3. Our Away Regatta meeting is this Wednesday in Woodson Cafeteria A from 7pm to 8:30pm. We will be selling crew gear, bumper stickers, ties, and a limited number of crew ornaments at the meeting. We hope you can all join us!

4. NEW: The first spirit wear orders were distributed at the pre-regatta dinner Friday. Any spirit wear not distributed will be distributed at practice this week. We have arranged to reopen the JL racing store for a short time. If you missed your placing your order for a splash jacket, this is the time to order. The site is currently open and will close at midnight on 3 April. You can also order an extra uni or tech shirt. The estimated ship date is 10 May with estimated delivery on 17 May. This will be your last chance to order for this season. The JL site may not be open again until January 2018. Please pay special attention when inputting payment information at checkout. If the transaction does not lead you to a confirmation screen, the order did not go through and please double check the information that you entered. Scroll down the middle of the page and select the Woodson team store. If there are questions, email the uniform/spirit wear coordinator, Tu’lann von Christierson, at tulannvonc@cox.net, (703) 426-2595.

5. NEW: There is no practice bus this Wednesday, 29 March. Please make appropriate arrangements. Here is the Carpool Interest Sign-Up for anyone who is looking to carpool to and from practices on Saturdays or Non-Bus days. Please sign up if you are willing to drive other student-athletes or if you need assistance in driving your student-athlete to and from practice. This is a way to get families connected, who are interested in carpooling. It does not ensure rides.

6. Attendance for practice is mandatory. In the case of an absence, please fill out this form to let team know of your absence.

7. REMINDER: Rowers should bring their own reusable water bottles to practice and on regatta days. We will have water for refilling the water bottles and a few individual water bottles on hand at RAFT, but in general we encourage the use of reusable water bottles.

8. The pre-regatta dinner this week will be at the boathouse. Instead of food assignments for 31 March, there is an additional $5.00/per athlete fee for the pizza at the boathouse on 31 March. This can be collected at the Away Regatta Parent Meeting on 29 March.

9. UPDATE: We are trying to get a head count for St. Andrew’s this coming weekend for food planning purposes. Please sign-up here if parent(s) are attending (volunteering or not) this coming Saturday, 1 April.

The buses will depart WT Woodson at 7am. Since we will be chartering a bus to the regatta, the cost for each student will be $70. Checks (payable to WTW Crew Boosters) and required paperwork (Parental Authorization Form, Student Rules of Conduct Form, Student Medication Form) are due before Thursday, 30 March. We are currently scheduled to have an Away Regatta meeting for parents on 29 March at 7pm. In the meanwhile, if you have questions please contact Catherine Foley-Caperton and Sissy Kutia at wtwcrewactivities@gmail.com.

Please drop your $70 check made payable to WTW Crew Boosters along with the completed Parental Authorization Form, Student Rules of Conduct Form, and Student Medication Form as follows:
  • Drop off in the Tupperware box labeled WTW Crew at Catherine Foley's house - 9124 Glenbrook Rd, (Mantua neighborhood);
  • Drop off during the Away Regatta Meeting for Parents on 29 March at Woodson; or
  • Place in an envelope and mail to: WTW Crew Attn: Catherine Foley, 9124 Glenbrook Rd, Fairfax, VA 22031
10. Tired of driving to the river? There are seats still available on the bus. The price will be $35 per week or $7 a day. Seats are available first come, first serve and we will need release forms signed before a student-athlete can ride the bus. Please contact the bus coordinator, Genie Heimbigner at: gbheimbigner@gmail.com for more information.

11. HIGHLIGHT: We have a home regatta page on our WTW Crew website. Please check it out for details if you are not familiar with our home regattas at Sandy Run Regional Park.
