It was great to catch up with and meet so many crew parents on Friday. A huge thank you to Stacey & Adam Bromberg for hosting our Parent Social.

We realize there is a storm predicted for Monday night/Tuesday and we will be monitoring the situation. If school is cancelled Tuesday, we will not have practice. If school is delayed or in-session, we are looking at other alternatives and will advise you of any changes to practice.

1. NEW: Tired of driving to the river? There are seats still available on the bus. The price will be $35 per week or $7 a day. Seats are available first come, first serve and we will need release forms signed before a student-athlete can ride the bus. Please contact the bus coordinator, Genie Heimbigner at: gbheimbigner@gmail.com for more information.

2. NEW: The entire team will be going to St. Andrew’s Regatta on 1 April. Last year only the boys participated, but this year it will be girls and boys. We are currently scheduled to have an Away Regatta meeting for parents on March 29th at 7pm. We will be sending out information on St. Andrew’s costs and required paperwork this Thursday. In the meanwhile, if you have questions please contact Catherine Foley-Caperton and Cissy Kutia at wtwcrewactivities@gmail.com.

3. VASRA VOLUNTEER opportunities are still available on the VASRA Regatta Volunteer Sign-Up and the Occoquan Clean-Up Sign-Up. We will notify you when we have more available. Each WTW Crew family has a requirement to fulfill at least two VASRA volunteer jobs during the season. Either of these volunteer opportunities will count toward these requirements. The current jobs available, for the most part, require you to be in or around the water or to walk through unpaved areas. Please be sure to dress appropriately. Also, please arrive for check in at least 30 minutes before your scheduled sign up time. If you have questions about the job responsibilities, there are descriptions on the WTW Crew website. NEW: We encourage everyone to add a cell number on Sign-Up Genius so we can call AND text with any changes to any of the volunteer positions.

  • Scrip orders due by the 15th of each month. What could be better than being able to work toward meeting your fundraising commitment without spending any extra money?! With Scrip, hundreds of vendor gift cards are available to you at face value, and WTW Crew gets a rebate – and 50% of that rebate will be credited to your family’s fundraising commitment! Think of Scrip as a change in your payment method. Instead of writing a check or paying by credit card for your normal monthly purchases, simply have some of these gift cards on hand and pay for your goods with them.   • Beautiful Note Cards and Prints still available for purchase. WTW Crew teamed with Laura Riekki, an artist and rowing coach based in Orlando, Florida. Laura created a great image of the Woodson oars in action – sure to conjure up memories for current rowers and alums of all ages! $15 for a set of 5 notecards; $25 for a 12x12 matted print. 100% of the sale price will be donated to the team. Supplies are limited so act fast. Contact Joan Fisher (joanmkf@aol.com) to order. 

5. RESCHEDULED Launch Boat Driver Training. Hopefully we will be able to actually hold the training this Saturday, 18 March. If you previously signed up, we are hope you are able to join us. If you need to change your sign-up, please do so at: Launch Boat Driver Training.

6. NEW: We need volunteers to host the pre-regatta dinners. The first regatta is less than two weeks away and we need volunteers to hosts as soon as possible. Hosts will earn two $50 fundraising service credits. The team dinners are from 7pm-9pm (volunteers 6:30-9:30pm). To be a host home, we ask that (1) you have ample parking (street parking is okay) and (2) can accommodate 60-90 teenagers and five chaperones. Once we have the Host information a sign-up will be sent requesting chaperones for the dinners. Chaperones will earn one $50 fundraising service credit. 7. NEW: We decided to sell four (4) ergs early this year for those that are interested in keeping in shape while off the water. The ergs on sale are $250 each and are first come, first serve. If you are interested, please contact Bill Muras at wtwcrewtreasurer@gmail.com. NOTE: These are Concept 2 Model C Ergs (actual erg may differ from image in link).

8. UPDATE: A few parent bus chaperone slots are still open. If you have not signed up for two dates and have a student-athlete riding the bus, please sign-up here: Bus Chaperone Sign-Up.

9. UPDATE: We have updated the Carpool Interest Sign-Up for anyone who is looking to carpool to and from practices. Please sign up if you are willing to drive other student-athletes or if you need assistance in driving your student-athlete to and from practice. This is a way to get families connected, who are interested in carpooling. It does not ensure rides.

10. We will share rowing camp information as it becomes available and we will be updating our website with more opportunities. We recently became aware of the Navy Rowing Camps for Girls at the United States Naval Academy this June. Their overnight camps offer campers a full immersion into the sport for five days, with two-a-day rowing sessions and land seminars in-between. They keep their coach to athlete ratio low (1:10) and plan a curriculum that addresses the technical, mental, and physical aspects to the sport. The camps are open to girls ages 13-18 (rising 8th graders through those just graduating from high school). Their sessions run June 11-15, June 18-22, and June 25-29 and the all-inclusive cost per camp is $900 (teammate and sibling discounts are offered).
