1. NEW: VSRC Day 1 Summary. It was an amazing day for the VSRC Day 1 of State Finals. WTW Crew had a great day and the Women’s Junior 8 are the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association 2018 Champions (“State Champions”) and will be invited to participate in the Scholastic Rowing Association of American National Championships, May 25th and 26th to be held on the Cooper River, NJ.

The Women’s Junior 8 (W-JR-8) placed 1st in their heat advancing to the finals and won the VSRCs finals over Madison, S. County, W-L, and Oakton. Congratulations to State Champions C. Moore, N. Curtis, A. Pesansky, C. Middleton, S. Boucher, I. Kogan, N. Moran, J. Heimbigner, and L. Benjelloun (Coxswain).

The Men’s Novice 8 (M-N-8) placed 2nd in their heat advancing to the finals and placed 5th in the state finals over Oakton. What an amazing 1st season and congratulations to B. Stump, G. Stahl, R. Rizk, O. Jani, L. Hartman, A. Borja, A. Hayes, M. Pugsley, and E. Phan (Coxswain).

The Women’s Freshmen 8 (W-FR-8) placed 3rd in their heat, 6th fastest across all qualifying heats, but unfortunately didn’t advance to the finals. They have had a strong 1st season and we congratulate K. Hester, M. Weinberg, S. Phipps, S. Labys, L. Crowley, J. Michelson, K. Mccarthy, A. Miller, and M. Clune (Coxswain).

2. NEW: State Line-Up Boat Pictures on Tuesday (tomorrow). A professional photographer from Power 10 Photography will be at the boathouse on Tuesday to take pictures of the line-ups for States. Everyone needs to bring their unis on Tuesday for the pictures. If anyone wants their own 8x10 of their boat, please bring $20 and prints will be available the Monday after Stotesbury. This is also a team fundraiser and 10% of the sales go back to WTW Crew.

3. NEW: Scrip Bonus Savings Today Only and Last Scrip Order of the Year on May 15th.

4. REMINDER: WTW Sports Physicals today. The Woodson High School Athletic Training Department will be offering sports physicals at Woodson High School today, Monday, May 7th.

This successfully completed physical will be good for all sports and out of season practices (green days, yellow days, weight room workouts) for the 2018-2019 school year.

This event is a fundraiser for the Woodson High School Athletic Training Department and goes to support the athletes at Woodson High School. The cost of the physical is $50 when you register online. You can register here.

5. NEW: Senior Night Pre-Regatta Dinner Food Assignments for all families. Our last pre-regatta dinner of the season and the Senior Night celebration is this Friday from 7-9pm. Details here (* requires authentication). Thank you to the Sandino family for hosting and to the parents who have signed up to help. Here are the dinner and RAFT food assignments (* requires authentication) for all families. Please bring the assigned food items to the pre-regatta dinner, even if your student-athlete is unable to attend the dinner. If an athlete’s last name falls between the names listed then that is their food assignment.

Families of Seniors, unless you have a younger athlete on the team as well, there is NO food assignment for Seniors. Parents of Seniors are also invited to the team dinner.

It is a tradition to all student-athletes to wear their Senior Night t-shirts on Friday to school and to the team dinner.

Also please bring the assigned food even if your student-athlete is not competing this week. They are welcome to eat at the food tent as a spectator cheering on their teammates.

6. NEW: VSRC Day 2 and VASRA Volunteers. This Saturday, the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championships Day 2 will take place. The boats racing this Saturday will be the Women’s 1st 4, Men’s Junior 4, Men’s 1st and 2nd 8s, and the Women’s Lightweight 8. This is our last race at the Occoquan this season, we hope you can join us to Pull for Woodson!

NEW: Parents who have not fulfilled their VASRA commitments, please check the Sign-up Genius for a few remaining volunteer spots and sign-up now. If you have questions, please contact Jen Duffy at jenduf13@gmail.com.

7. REMINDER: Stotesbury Parent Volunteers Needed. The Stotesbury Regatta trip is May 17-19th in Philadelphia, PA. Stotesbury is the oldest and largest high school regatta in the U.S. and takes place annually on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. Going to Stotesbury is an incredible experience for athletes and families alike. MANY parent volunteers are needed for this away regatta. Please sign-up here for Stotesbury Volunteer Opportunities. We will need help with the following:
  • Food shopping and prep in your home 
  • Chaperone the bus to Philadelphia and back 
  • Boat Parents at the hotel during the Regatta 
    • Boat Parents help ensure each boat's athletes are in the right place at right time 
  • Maintain the food tent during the Regatta 
  • Logistics (e.g.,luggage check, load bus, load/unload Chuck Wagon, etc.) in Virginia & PA

8. REMINDER: Stotesbury Competitor Shirts. Two days left to pre-order your Stotesbury competitor shirts here. Order by May 9th and pick up your shirt at the regatta! This is not required and not sponsored by WT Woodson Crew Boosters.

9. NEW: Men’s Captain Applications Due Thursday, May 24th. Instructions can be found here.

10. FINAL CALL: 2018-2019 WTW Crew Booster Executive Board Nominations Requested. Unbelievably, the end of the 2017-2018 season is nearly upon us and we need to begin planning for the 2018-2019 WTW Crew season! At the end of the year, the WTW Crew Boosters (all parents of crew athletes) will vote to elect next year's executive board members (President, Vice President for Team Liaison and Activities, Vice President for Communications, Treasurer, and Secretary). For board position descriptions, please refer to the By-Laws. If you are interested in serving in any of these positions or if you'd like to nominate someone that you think would be great and willing, please contact the nominating committee (Dana Boucher, Amy Pepper, and Kim Sandino) at wtwcrewcommunications@gmail.com. If a committee members reaches out to you to discuss the possibility, please keep an open mind. It takes a whole village to make this awesome club run! Huge thanks to all of the parent volunteers throughout the year - including board members and every other volunteer job. Your kids appreciate it - whether they realize it or not!

12. SAVE THE DATE: Restaurant Fundraiser on June 4th. We will have our last restaurant fundraiser of the season at Noodles & Co in Fairfax from 5 to 9 pm on June 4th. When you place your order mention that you are from Woodson Crew so they can punch in the code to give us credit.

13. SAVE THE DATE: The End-of-Year Crew Party will be Monday, June 11th in WTW cafeterias A&B. More information will be forthcoming.
