1. NEW: It was cold at the Walter Mess Regatta and many of the finals were cancelled, but there was some great racing. The novices had an outstanding first regatta on the Occoquan.

The Men’s Novice 8 (M-N-8) and Women’s Novice 8 (W-N-8) finished 2nd in their flights earning their first ribbons! Congratulations!

The Women’s Lightweight 8 (W-LT-8) finished 2nd in their race and the Women’s Lightweight 4 (W-LT-4) finished 3rd in their race also both earning ribbons! Congratulations!

The Men’s 2nd 8 (M-2-8) finished 2nd in their heat with the 3rd fastest time across all of their heats and qualified for finals (although finals were not run).

Here are the results for all of the races. Check out photos from the regatta on our new WTW Crew photo page. If anyone has any photos of the team they would like to share and that we could post on our site, please send them to wtwcrewphotographer@gmail.com.

Thank you to our pre-regatta volunteers who made the dinner such a success and to the volunteers who braved the cold at the regatta.

2. REMINDER: Spirit Wear from the second order will be distributed at practice today (Monday, April 9th).

3. NEW: Anacostia Tri-Meet Information on April 14th. Please note, there is no pre-regatta dinner this Friday, but there is practice even though it is an early release day from school. There will not be bus transportation to the Anacostia Tri-Meet due to the proximity and carpooling is encouraged. There is no parking at the Anacostia boathouse, all parking will be at Maritime Plaza at 11th and M Street SE. Shuttle buses will be provided from the parking area to the boathouse.

The regatta schedule is still being worked, but it will be a rather short event and complete by lunchtime. More details will be sent later this week.

Due to this being a short event, there will not be a RAFT tent, so student-athletes should bring snacks and water bottles.

More information here.

4. NEW: VASRA Volunteer Opportunities. VASRA will be hosting the Mason Invitational on Sunday, April 22nd. VASRA is looking for student-athlete or adult volunteers. If you are interested, please contact Jen Duffy at jenduf13@gmail.com. It is a great chance to see a collegiate regatta as well as a behind the scenes look at what goes on at the finish line during a regatta! Community Service hours will be given for volunteers.

5. REMINDER: Stotesbury/SRAA forms and payments are due no later than May 4th. The payment information and forms are located on the wtwcrew.org main page under “2018 Away Regatta Meeting.” Packets and payments may be mailed or dropped off to Jami Shawley at 4105 Duncan Dr., Annandale, VA. Packets and payments can also be turned in at the Pasta Dinner on April 20th. Thank you to those who have already submitted their forms and payments.

6. REMINDER: Practice Bus. We now still offering single-day rides for $20 per day as long as the student-athlete has a daily bus rider agreement form signed by a parent. If the carpool coordination is too inconvenient, too unreliable or just too much, consider signing up for the super convenient and reliable daily practice bus. To register, contact Jami Shawley at wtwcrewactivities@gmail.com.

7. REMINDER: Self-coordinating Carpool Sign-up. We have created a sign-up genius for those interested in self-coordinating Friday and Saturday carpools.

8. REMINDER: Fundraising from home.

Scrip Orders are due April 15th.

9. NEW: WTW Sports Physicals. The Woodson High School Athletic Training Department will be offering sports physicals at Woodson High School on Monday, May 7th.

This successfully completed physical will be good for all sports and out of season practices (green days, yellow days, weight room workouts) for the 2018-2019 school year.

This event is a fundraiser for the Woodson High School Athletic Training Department and goes to support the athletes at Woodson High School.

The cost of the physical is $50 when you register online. You can register here.

10. NEW: 2018 Laura Ashley Piper Scholarship. A $1,000 scholarship will be granted in memory of Laura Ashley Piper. Applicants must be Senior athletes graduating from a Fairfax County high school who are U.S. citizens and residents of Fairfax County. Applicants must demonstrate academic excellence, athletic merit, personal integrity, student leadership, and service to school and community. Completed applications will include copies of ACT/SAT score report(s), an official transcript, information on activities, honors/awards, academic interests, athletics, and two recommendations using the recommendation form in the application. More details and applications can be found in Family Connection. Completed application packets are due by or before Friday, 13 April.

11. NEW: Summer Rowing Camps. Here is a link to our webpage with information on summer rowing camps, but we also have additional details on two camps below. NOTE: We are only providing this information for your awareness and the WTW Crew Boosters is not specifically endorsing any of these camps.

Registration for UVA’s 2018 Summer Camps has opened. Athletes, both individual and groups, from programs across the country capitalize on this special training opportunity each summer. To accommodate demand, they have increased the number of sessions offered throughout June and July. More information and registration can be found here on their website.

Row West Racing Camp is also accepting applications. This is a girls-only camp based in Los Angeles that culminates with a trip to Club Nationals. Row West is an opportunity for girls to get some high level training and racing experience and come home stronger, more skilled and ready to be even better contributors to your programs at home. You can find more information about the camp on their website and interested kids can apply via the camps link on Regatta Central.
