Polar Bear Regatta Summary, Spring Break, St. Andrew’s Regatta, Food Assignments, Carpooling

1. NEW: The Polar Bear Regatta lived up to its name and started off very cold, but three of our four boats advanced to the finals and our Women’s Lightweight 8, racing up in the Junior 8 (JR-8+) final, was first. Here is the link to photos of the team from the regatta. General photos from the regatta can also be found here.

The Women’s Lightweight-8+ dominated their race finishing 4-5 boat lengths/24 seconds ahead of the rest of the field: Haley Cole (Cox), Jenna Hissong, Joy Kim, Reagan Smith, Mya Rowe, Kesem Solell, Jules Heimbigner, Natalie Moran, Katlyn Howard. Way to go ladies!

The Men’s 1V-8+ finished 3rd in their heat (only .3 seconds off of making it to the finals).

The Men’s 2V-8+ finished 2nd in a close heat (only a second off of 1st) and 5th in the finals.

The Women’s 1V-4+ finished 3rd in their heat and 6th in finals.

We congratulate the 32 WTW rowers and coxswains who participated in Saturday’s regatta and look forward to our next regatta at St. Andrews.

2. REMINDER: Spring Break Practice Schedule:

Monday March 26th (today) - No Practice
Tuesday-Thursday, March 27th - 29th 8:30-10:45am and 12:00-2:15pm
Friday, March 30th 8:30-12:30pm (practice once then load the trailer for St. Andrews-we should be done by 12:30pm)
Saturday, March 31st St. Andrews Regatta (Buses depart at 7:30am. Be at WT Woodson at 7:15am)
Monday, April 2nd Normal Time 4:00- 6:30 pm (NOTE: no practice bus since no school that day).

3. UPDATE: Our first away regatta of the season is at St. Andrew’s this Saturday, March 31st. This link has all the information you need to prepare for the trip, what to bring, address, schedule for the day, and contact information. Here is a link to the school as well which has a good video and pictures for those interested.

The buses will depart Woodson HS at 7:30am. All students should be at Woodson HS by 7:15am. If a student will be bringing medication, please ensure they come with a signed Student Medication Form and meds in a plastic bag marked with their name.

We are trying to get a head count for St. Andrew’s this weekend for food planning purposes. Please sign-up here if attending.

We are also still looking for food tent volunteers at St. Andrew’s. Please sign-up here if parent(s) are attending (volunteering or not) this Saturday, March 31st.

We recommend that parents attending bring chairs and possibly blankets to better enjoy the regatta. The weather forecast for the days prior to the regatta calls for rain so it is likely to be muddy in the area we watch the regatta from and where we set up the food tent.

There is no pre-regatta dinner this week.

4. UPDATE: Pre-Regatta Dinner and RAFT Food Assignments. Perhaps there was some confusion with the first pre-regatta diner. We did not receive the number of main course items that were assigned. As a result, we had to order in pizza. The next Pre-regatta diner is April 6th. Assignments for Food for the dinner and the raft are will be sent out on the Monday email April 2nd.

Please bring the assigned food items to the pre-regatta dinner when the event starts, even if your student-athlete is unable to attend the dinner because they support not only that meal but also the RAFT for the following regatta day.

If an athlete’s last name falls between the names listed then that is their food assignment.

5. REMINDER: Self-coordinating Carpool Sign-up. We have created a sign-up genius for those interested in self-coordinating Friday and Saturday carpools.
